Well, we're at what, the three week mark now? Wow, feels like just yesterday that I didn't have to share my couch. What DID I do with all that space?
Hector's still at the "settling in" stage and we're seeing more and more of his true personality by the day. He's such a goof.
Bill warned us about the greyhound "collecting" habit so before we brought him home we made sure all our daughter's Beanie Babies were safe and secure where he couldn't get at them. Last thing I wanted to do was to be picking up Beanie "guts" spread over the length and breadth of the house. Figured if anybody left socks out, they were fair game.
So I was sitting in my office the other day when Hector strolled past and into the bedroom. He wasn't in there long before he strolled out again..... with something in his mouth. I followed him downstairs to where he had put his newest "treasure" in his crate. It was a paperback, he's a literary dog and has been getting bored during those long nights in his crate? Guess reading would be better than the singing he does at 4:30 am!
It was a Stephen King book, so yes, I did get my tush up into the bedroom to put "Cujo" and "Pet Semetary" on the really high shelves!
He's really starting to get comfortable and seems to know he's part of the family, not just visiting anymore. He's got his morning routines down to a science. Still crating him at night, which is going to end very soon because I don't thing anybody really likes it, LOL. At around 4:30 am (half an hour before hubby usually gets up) he starts to "sing". He'll do this until hubby calls out, "Shush! Give me another half hour!" I'm learning to sleep through this process.
When the alarm finally goes off Hubby goes down and lets Hector out to chase off the resident groundhog. You'd think that overgrown rodent would learn and go next door for breakfast instead, but nooooooooooooo. Then Hector comes upstairs to my office, where we have coffee together. Literally. I now drink my morning coffee from a travel mug. With a lid. A really SECURE lid.
Hector's figured out that nobody has breakfast until my daughter's up. We "tag team feed" the dogs, one upstairs, one down, at exactly the same time. So after we have our coffee he stands in her door and stares at her until she gets up. Yeah, going in and jumping on her bed would probably be more effective, but he's a goofy dog, not stupid. Some day she's going to clean her room and the mystery of the lost Incan civilization will be solved......
So, all in all it's been a good three weeks so far. Hector's adjusting well, and so are we. He's "Hubby's Dog"........... officially, but I'm getting used to having two shadows instead of one spaniel sized shadow, LOL.
