glucose 6.7 na/K ratio 38 t4 10.2 freet4 unreadable on their machine TSH .38
thse are the readings the vet felt were not in normal range. They want to start meds for hypothyroidism, Im not convinced by thesse numbers. His weight is not coming down on a reduced diet with moderate exercise. He is also lethargic. Was his symtoms that lead to the blood panel being done.
Any thoughts?

Sandra, I'm sorry there are concerns for Ramone. I'm of no help with those numbers, just sending support! Martha

Whenever we have concerns about thyroid, I ask that the sample be sent to MSU (Michigan State University) for the full panel, which includes an interpretation by an endocrinologist. I believe the clinic sends it through IDEXX (the lab). It's expensive and it takes about a week, but at least I know that the tests are as complete as possible.

My second greyhound (Buffy) was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. As angelollie suggested definitely take the article by Suzanne Stack to your vet. Another issue i found is that values are measured differently depending on whether US/ CDN / EU labs which is totally confusing and hard to compare values in research.
The endocrinology tests needed are T4, Free T4 & Canine TSH.
Buffy's first set of blood work came back T4 <5.0 Free T4 <3.86 TSH 3.97 She was put on a low dose Thyro tab 0.5 mg and retested 1 month later and her T4 was 6.3 which my vet was happy with then tested another month later and T4 was 12.2 then tested 1 year later and it was back down T4 <6.
In comparison, my current girl, Emily was tested as part of her initial Wellness blood panel and her T4 <6 TSH 0.20 and Free T4 7
Although the lab made a comment that the T4 & Free T4 were low, my vet said for a greyhound these values are fine.
Good luck in figuring out everything for Ramone.
