Houdini's tail needs to be wrapped, anyone closebye have experience wrapping tail tips? He keeps wacking it and creating a fresh bleed and it needs time to heal protected. We are having no success with anything staying inplace.

We will have to give it another go tomorrow. We just couldnt make it stay on, and Houdini was moving lots. He's making a big mess with spraying blood and I'm terrified it will become infected.

I found that the biggest problem was finding tape sticky enough to stay on. I ended up putting one round of _very_ sticky tape above the sore area and leaving it there. It was the anchor for the remaining bandage, which needs to be changed frequently. The worst thing you can do is leave it too long and have the sore part get gunky (BTDT).

For protection while healing many have recommended using a large foam hair roller or pipe wrap vet-wrapped on the tail. This is also a picture using a bottle to protect the tail as it heals. I can't remember as I was collecting all sorts of pics and articles, but I think I got it from Greytalk early last year before Onyx joined me. I hope Houdini heals asap! <3

We tried again this morning and did get it wrapped he went outside, came in and the bandage went flying right off, I think his tail is actually a propeller! On a good note he went right down the stairs this morning on his own no encouragement!

I think part of the problem is that the vet shaved his tail, you will have to go up the tail a fair way to get it to stay on there. And GreyPoopon`s advice is spot on. Scarletta`s bottle looks interesting, however I`m not convinced you`ll be able to get it to stay on, if the bandage isn`t sticking.
Also, so long as you regularly dip it in colloidal silver, it will not get infected, so relax lol

Yes its shaved for about 4 inches unfortunately You should go and get the stickiest tape you can find in the first aid section, the waterproof stuff is usually really sticky. You can get it off later with olive oil but it`s important to have a good length of it on the hair, even more than what they do in the Grassmere pics. Yo u want to be able to `braid`` the hair into the bandaging, and that way use it to help the bandage stay on.

Yes its shaved for about 4 inches unfortunately Unfortunately, the new surgical tape is like all new tape: not nearly as sticky as it should be. (Nor are bandages. This is one of my pet peeves. LOL) I have a roll of the old sticky stuff that I'm guarding with my life. Karen (campgreyhound) offered great advice. I don't think I'd use a bottle--I'd hate to get whacked with it.

We are at our witts end with the tail bandaging! The best we have come acrossed to use on the tail tip is a toe bandage, its a cylinder sponge, attaching this with surgical tape to the tail then wrapping the whole thing with vet bandage. Even this hasnt stayed on, so Im going to have to attach with duct tape on the next application. I even wove through the hair like the pictures online have showed to do, the bandages came off with fistfulls of hair on them! So worried this is going to result in amputation if we cant get a bandage to remain in place.
