Fit is Home......"Home is where the Heart is" Everything is all so new to Fit and the best thing is just keep your eye on him while he discovers his new Forever home. He is just gorgeous and will bring you many years of love and loyalty. Our girl Liza was a lot like that when we brought her home - scared of everything and was not interested in anything. When it was time for bed we put her in her crate and she whined all night so the next night I took a pillow and blanket downstairs and stayed with her. Fit will adapt to his new Forever home in a short time. Congratulations on your new arrival.

Hi! We are in Guelph as well with our new grey. (He's been with us for one month now and it feels like he's been part of the family forever!). We are taking our buddy to the vet college in town, and so far so good. We went once for a healthy-dog check, and have 2 appointments this coming week, one for lepto vaccine booster and one for teeth descaling. They are really aware of how greys are different from other dogs and so far I feel really comfortable with them. We plan on taking the dude to the off leash park in Acton very soon, just have to find a non-soggy weekend! We also went to Bill's, 'just to look'. . Have fun and once the new pup is settled let us know if you want to walk some weekend, or meet in Acton.

Congrats he's such a handsome boy. When we brought Jed home he was very anxious and paced for several hours. It took him a good 2-3 hours actually settle down from pacing. Over a day or so he really calmed down and started to settle, for him it was a challenge as he was extremely sensitive to any noise, no matter how loud. He's settled nicely now, the key is patience and giving them time.
Good luck with our new boy. I'm so jealous, he's such a handsome brindle, reminds me of my angel Troy.

Welcome to the forum & congratulations on adopting Fit & bringing home! Such an exciting time indeed. My first greyhound was an Iruska hound and she was such a sweetheart and hooked me on Broodie greyhounds. The picture you posted at GRA is so cute with his snout peaking through the crate. You are going to have fun times for sure with this boy - can't wait to read all about them.

Hello again Fit is now Innis. And he is a big scaredy cat. Poor guy still isn't happy with anything soft. He just goes stiff legged whenever he comes in contact with it. And he hates his crate. right from the get go he was against it. And no amount of treats or bribing will get him to willingly go anywhere near it. We're going to have to work on that. Good notes, he's working with me on the stairs. I've set up a walking route that we go on that takes us by a couple schools that have big sets of outdoor steps, and up and down a big hill that has steps along the path. He's a champ at going up and down all the steps we encounter out on our walks. Tons of praise (he may think his name is "Good boy!") But can't seem to transfer that skill into the house. He'll go down the stairs as long at I walk with him down, but going up, he can't seem to figure out how to lift his back feet into position. Treats placed on each step help get him interested, so he doesn't seem scared of the steps anymore, just unsure of how to use the ones in the house. Oh! On that note, he really likes food and treats now. That didn't take long at all. He's still not fussy on any toys though. Or rawhide, or Nylabone. He has attempted an armchair, a coffee table, an umbrella, some papers, and managed to get some teeth marks in my sunglasses. He has meet multiple people, including children. A few other dogs. And even one cat. He's been very well behaved for all encounters. He's almost disinterested most of the time. Even with the dogs. The cat was another story. Luckily, it just wanted to play, then ran off. Went coat shopping today and couldn't find anything that fit him well. went online to look, has anyone had any experience with www.chillydogs.ca/ ? The company looks and sounds great, and so do their products. Little on the pricy side, but if they're as nice as they seem, its probably worth it. Anyway, here are some pics as promised, he's a beautiful boy. Otherwise, visit to the vet on Wednesday. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks everyone for the encouragement! Oh, and does anyone know what he wants in the outside pic? He races around the yard like a mad man, then gets into this position and won't move more minutes at a time, staring at me. He expects something, but i don't know what. Thanks! First edit to remove a smile face, second to say sorry, because it seems the first edit removed the pics. i'll repost from home tonight.

Here are those pics, as well as my profile picture. That outside picture looks like Riggin's "I can run faster than you can... TRY!!!" pose, just before he goes into a wingnut run around me.
He looks like SUCH a sweetheart, congrats!

Ooh, I love your profile picture! What a sweet face!! Everyday when I get home from work, my lazy girl will do laps in the yard, pause, and wait for a reaction from me (something like Innis's pic). I stomp my foot and say "I'm going to get you!" and she will continue to race. She loves it! Enjoy your boy!!

He is soooooooo handsome. Before you know it you won't know how you ever walked into another room without your shadow.
We have two coats from Chilly Dogs and they are great coats. If when they get your order they think you may have made a mistake in the measuring they will call you to confirm.
They are not so big that they don't care, if you made a mistake,. I think you will be happy with their products and they are Canadian, in Ottawa I believe.

Does he have to go in a crate? Others on here have used baby gates instead to keep their hounds safe, just a thought. I've also experienced hounds who will happily walk up steps outside the home but then refuse to walk up stairs inside. Maybe the feel of carpet is making a difference, who knows?

I agree with rudylottie14, does he need the crate. I don't crate my boys anymore. I know a few others on the forum had pups who didn't won't the crate once they came home and did much better without it. You could try baby gates to block him to one area to work on potting training and alone time and eventually you can remove them once you know he does fine. Others might chime in who had the same experience with the crate. Both my guys actually bend the bars and Ghost actually escaped. I removed them as I didn't want them to hurt themselves and they did much better out on their comfy beds. Actually Ghost made a comfy spot on the couch.

I expected to use a crate for "Ace" when we brought him home in Sept 2011, but he had other plans. He chewed the metal on his crate door to the extent that the paint came off, and he bent the wires. And of course his gums were bloody also. We then tried using a strong plastic baby gate and contain him to the living room while we were at work. Again he chewed the baby gate to the point of having bleeding gums (and bloody saliva found on the floor) and deep teeth marks made to the baby gate. We also found his nail marks dragged down our living room wall in a vertical fashion. So after all that, we decided to close bedroom doors and let him have access to our main living area, and he was much happier as a result.
As for Chilly Dog products, we just bought Ace a red wintercoat from them. Yes it was expensive but it will probably be the only one he ever owns. If I recall, he took a size L in the long and lean category.
