Hello everyone. I've been reading and learning lots for a while now. I decided it was time to pay a visit and have a chat with Bill on Saturday. I said I wasn't there to take home a dog today, he laughed and said that he's heard that before. I found myself in love with Iruska Fit For U, and he seemed to return the sentiment. So, not being prepared to bring a new pup home this weekend, I'm going to be back to pick him up next Saturday. I'm very excited. I've already started my scavenger hunt for all the things I'll need. My one major concern at the moment is finding a vet in the area. I'm in Guelph, if anyone could direct me to someone, it would be much appreciated. Myself and my previous pup, a lurcher, had fantastic experiences with Hwy 24 vet clinic. I intend to call them tomorrow and have a chat and see if they have any other greys, and are familiar with them. Other options would be a great asset though. I'd like to have something set up before I get him home. Also, if anyone in the area, that would like to maybe get together, or knows of a regular drop in playgroup or anything could reply/PM me with any details, that would be fantastic. Thank you for all the knowledge now and in the future, and I hope Fit For U (need time with him to decide a new name) and myself can make some new friends here. Was enthralled and forgot to take a pic until he was back in his crate.

I am sure you will love it here as there are so many people on these forums that can help give advice with pretty most anything you might need to know. I can't wait to see pictures of your new furkid in his new home.

Congratulations! He sure is a cutie. I so love the light brindles. He reminds me of my Angel Troy.
I'm also interested in any groups that meet around the Guelph area. I'm in Brampton and think my boys need to have some runs with the greys.
How exciting for you! Bill is correct, rarely anyone leaves without a grey. So glad you found the connection with "Fit for U" I was wondering why he hadn't been scooped up earlier, such a handsome boy.

Congratulations on adopting Fit For U, I wish you many happy years together. What a great choice, I spent some time with Fit and he's a very good boy. Be sure to post lots of pics when he comes home, we love that!
We are a bit of a drive for you, but if you can't find a playgroup down there you are welcome to join us up here, we are just off the 400 north of Newmarket.
I'm sure that clinic has seen greys, as it was posted on the vet recommendations at the top of the Health form. In any case, if you bring your vet a copy of "Greyhound Idiosyncrasies" that will provide him with the information she or he needs. I always double check any results in there anyways. Or send them to greythealth.com.

Two days since I was at GRA and it already feels like quite a long week. I had looked in the "health and medical" under "medical practitioner recommendations", but hadn't seen anything about them. Thanks for letting me know. I called and spoke to them today, and they do have someone who has a keen interest and experience with greys, so I'm in luck and have my appointment booked for next Wednesday. As soon as I get him home, I'll put some pictures up. I'm sure there will be lots of adventures as we both learn how to live with each other.

Congrats on adopting Fit for U. He is one handsome boy. Looking forward to pictures of him in his forever home. Under Greyhound Events on this forum there is a group that meets in Kitchener at Masters and Hounds on Sundays. All the info is there if you are interested in driving to Kitchener. They use the facebook page www.facebook.com/groups/56777242529/ to organize.

Congratulations on adopting Fit and welcome to the forum. Just four more sleeps from today and you'll be bringing your sweet boy home. Enjoy him as he learns and adapts to his new environment... all those "firsts" will make you laugh as you bond together.

Congratulations! I was going to say that a friend of mine goes to Hwy 24, loves it, and has said one of the vets has a special interest in greys--but I see you've discovered that already. I bet you can't wait to pick up your boy.

Well, we're home! He's been very nervous and anxious, scared at times. But he's settled down a bit now. He wanted nothing to do with getting in the car, and turned and panted for the first half hour, before laying down.
Got home and he hesitated twice before barreling down the the stairs into the basement. I was standing half way, trying to gently coax him. Thought I'd have to carry him down, then he just dove past me. Gave himself a fright, but luckily didn't hurt anything.
He doesn't have any interest in any sort of toys or food yet, but I was expecting that to some degree.
Also, he is scared of soft surfaces. Won't go near the couch, a bed, or his bed. I think he just needs to get used to the different balance on them. I pulled his bed out of his crate and folded up an old blanket for it instead.
After about two hours, he's finally stopped pacing and laid down on the floor. Some pics to follow.
