For about a week now, Trip (who used to be a good eater) has become a picky eater. He was having diarrhea issues, so I attributed it to an upset stomach. I took him to the vet and he looked him over. He didn't find anything out of the ordinary but he suggested switching to a different food and he gave me medication to help alleviate the diarrhea. He was then back on his food with no problems.
Since yesterday, he is back to being weird about eating. He eats a few mouthfuls then goes and lays down. He does eventually go back and clean up some time later.
The diarrhea issue seems to be resolved. We have checked over his teeth. There haven't been any major stressors lately or big changes in his environment. He hasn't eaten anything unusual. He has been de-wormed. He has a normal energy level. I can't seem to figure this out.
Has anyone else had similar issues?

I hear ya. Our girl came to us with an awful problem with diarrhea, and it was trial and error until I found the right kibble, but then she started turning her nose up at her kibble, so then we switched her to raw. For awhile, everything was going along fine, until she started turning her nose at chicken, next it was beef and now my fussy eater gets a different flavour at every meal and that seems to have met with her majesty's approval, for now, anyway, lol. On a more serious note, if all medical issues have been ruled out, like those nasty and persistent hook worms, then you may have to decide if you're strong enough for a battle of wills, or cave and be a food slave like I am. One thing's for sure though~~my girl can't resist the canned tripe you can buy at Pet Valu. I mix a 1/4 can in with every meal, and she gobbles it right up. Best of Luck to you!

I also feed raw and went to get the turkey at the store, but they had not got the shipment in, so I got a box of lamb and a box of beef. Silly me, I thought I was doing a good thing, who wouldn't want lamb. Long story short he hated it and refused to eat , I tried waiting him out but he only at twice in three days, so I tried the beef, that disappeared really fast only because he was really hungry, because in the morning he refused the beef again. Anyway this went n for a week and he only ate 4 times all week. The turkey came in on Friday and off I went like a good little Mummy and picked it up. Voila hehas eaten every meal since.
What can I say, he loves his turkey. If you can stomach and afford the raw, for my guy it's best. It's hard to find the favorite but when you do stick with it. Patience is the best way to handle it. It is not easy because we hate to think of them as being hungry but providing there is no medical reason, they will eat when they get hungry enough.
Not much help, I know. I wish there was a magic answer.

FWIW, there are parasites that recur after an initial treatment, and those that are not treatable by standard dewormers. You might consider further testing.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of different reasons that a dog might be off its food, including fussiness, and it can be really hard to find the answer. Something we know only too well here at GITroublesRUs. Sigh.

Did you mix in some goodies to make sure all the food was eaten? Because once you do that... it's game over XD

Good news is he is back to eating again. Bad news is he takes all day to do it. As in, he finished his lunch at 5:00 tonight and ate his dinner at 9:00. Very weird indeed. He has a follow-up appointment at the vet tomorrow afternoon. We'll see what he has to say then. The whole raw diet thing is pretty much out of the question for me. I have been a pescetarian for years and the thought of having to deal with raw meat freaks me out. Thanks for your help everyone

Hopefully it is nothing too major for Trip. I have found my previous 2 Greys would "self regulate" on occasion - just eating less for no rhyme or reason for a couple of days and then pick backup to normal as if nothing was ever wrong. Just try to make sure to notice if Trip just does not want to eat or acts hungry, then stops eating after a few mouthfuls. Those are the sorts of details important to your vet. Good luck!

One of the things that has always tempted my greyhounds is black pudding. I mash it down with some hot water and then stir in the kibble.

He does just eat a few mouthfuls and then stops but he has been going back and finishing later.

Being new, I started Remy on a mix of raw, blue buffalo and a spoonful of greek yogurt - mix all of that together - it's an irresistible combo. I think the yogurt is a good choice because if the hound isn't feeling well, it calms the stomach and promotes a good balance or additive.
