Okay, I'm totally new here, been a stalker for a long time. We pick up our new baby this Saturday. I'm extremely excited but I'm also very nervous about the unknown. How will he react to his new home and more importantly his new sibilings. We have a 10 year old Golden Retriever and they met at Bill's when we did the adoption and everything was great. We also have a 1 year old cat who is very dog friendly. I've read all about introducing cats and Grey's so I will follow the instructions and take it slow. We have a crate all set up for him so all I can do is hope for the best. I'm just worried about how it's all going to go. I've been reading a lot and I think I'm getting information overload. I'm expecting the worst and hoping for the best. Any advice?

When I adopted I wasn't even aware of the forum. I can see how you can get over load but then a lot of good information. I would just go with the moment and enjoy getting to know your new pup. They change and adjust as you go along. When we first adopted Josh a few months back he shied away from my husband. We went with the flow and now he's happy to see him when he enters the door. I wouldn't overly worry and just take moments as they come. I'm sure you got lot's of advice here about cats.
Who's the lucky fella?

Our new baby is Gee. His pic is still up there. I feel like it was so long ago we met him and I can't wait to bring him home. He seemed so sweet when we were with him, I just hope he settles in okay with us.

I hear you about the information overload. I was overwhelmed with the do's and don'ts prior to bringing Froggy home. It was frightening too because neither one of us had been dog owners before. My advice, take it slow and when in doubt hit the forum. There are some very helpful people here with wonderful experience. Next, find a vet that is familiar with greyhounds. It will make a world of difference. Last, enjoy the experience. While not having a dog prior, I've certainly experienced dogs before. There is something special about this breed that will leave you in awe unlike any other. Congrats and best of luck.

Take a deep breath. For the moment, stop reading all the hints and tips and give yourself a break. Check stuff as you need it otherwise you'll fry your brain! You will be fine. Greyhounds are very adaptable and have few expectations of us. Give them love, time and patience and it will all work out beautifully.

Thanks! I needed that. I will just try to relax and take things day by day. That way I'll really be able to enjoy everything. Definitely good advice to only look up things when I need to know something. Thanks all.

Gee is so handsome ... you are going to have such a great life with him. So be excited when you pick him up ... show him kindness and affection, give him direction, establish a routine and truly enjoy him. He has no expectations at this point so he'll need your guidance (it's easier to set your rules down in the beginning rather then having to establish later on. You'll find that most of the day's events will be based on your common sense. You'll do fine.
Enjoy Gee's journey as he learns and adapts to his new environment ... you'll have many laughs and sweet moments ... and then you'll fall in love just like the rest of us.
Good luck ... just 5 more sleeps !!! And don't forget, the forum is here to help you .....

I can't say it any better than what's already been said. I know exactly how you feel. I had had a dog for 13 years before I adopted my first grey. I was sooooo nervous. In the end the best thing you can do is love, be patient and give him structure/predictability. He'll blossom and you'll all be hooked!!!

Thanks everyone. You are definitely putting my mind at ease. I was hesitant to post but now I'm glad I have. I can definitely give love and patience and I'm sure we'll get through it all smoothly.

Gee is such a beautiful red brindle. It is going to be so fun to bring him home. We have 2 from Bill and they make us smile and laugh everyday!

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on adopting Gee! Heck I am on my third greyhound & I was nervous before bring her home! We err all here for you as your support - the only thing we ask (or sometimes demand) is to see lots of pictures of your new hound enjoying retirement with you! Lol!! Hope you can get some sleep before the big homecoming day! I am always like a kid at Christmas and cannot sleep before going to pick up my new hound! So glad you decided to post.
