I made my first batch of doggy ice cream tonight. It came out wonderfully and Summer is VERY interested in it. She will have to wait until tomorrow, though, until it is frozen. For anyone interested, here is the recipe that I followed. I can't give credit to the author, though, as I've forgotten where I got it from. 750g tub (3 cups) of plain yogurt (low-fat if possible) 1/2 cup peanut butter (natural is best without all the sugar & stuff) 4 oz. jar of banana baby food 1 Tbsp. liquid honey Whisk everything together really well. Pour into 3 oz. bathroom-size Dixie cups. Stick in Milkbones as handles. Makes 12. Peel and serve. It was recently suggested to me that you could also pour it into mini ice cream cones. I think that's an excellent idea for those dogs who like cones!

OMG I'm so doing this! I was going to use ice cube trays when but this is a much better idea! Thanks!

Summer had her first one today. Ecstasy! Definitely an outside treat.

I'd best not show this photo to my crew. I'll have drool all over the monitor.

I have the same recipe and I too have forgotten who the author is. The recipe I have states that in lieu of peanut butter, you can also add finely chopped tuna, canned salmon, chicken/turkey, ham or liver.
I remember a few years ago at the GRA picnic, for a donation, you could give your hound one of these frozen treats, made by Campgreyhound. If I remember right, they were a huge hit by all the hounds and greatly appreciated on such a hot humid day.

IIRC, Camp Greyhound's were flavored with liver? That's a great option, as are the others that you listed. As long as your pup likes whatever you add in, all is good in their world! Does your recipe have any kind of quantity for the meat or is it still about a 1/2 cup like the peanut butter?

Summer, re the 'outside treat' ...I could just imagine all the slurpies you were making, drip, drip, drip. I am going to make Top and stella some of these but will add some lung and liver chips! MMMMmmmmmmm

L ... I do believe Karen's were liver flavored. The recipe didn't specify how much of the chopped meat to add into the yogurt mix but I would assume 1/2 cup would give it a good meaty flavor. I plan on using a Dollar store tarp outside for the houndies' treats, that way, I can just hose it down when they're finished. Hope Summer is enjoying her treats.

Fab idea! I had purchased one of those kiddy-pop trays and, to be honest, was worried that the little plastic stick handle may disappear down the hatch in all the excitement! Milkbone sticks make it more fun for all ( : !!! Thanks!

Summer just eats her on the grass. No need for rinsing or any clean up. She may leave a wee bit behind but all I need to do is empty her water bowl onto it. But usually there's not enough to worry about, LOL.

I had forgotten to buy Dixie paper cups but I did have some small plastic Dixie cups on hand instead so used those today to fill the yogurt/peanut butter mix. I found removing the cups once the mixture was frozen was so easy, just ran a little water on the plastic cup and out popped the frozen treat. But my plastic cups weren't as cute as Summer's paper cups.
