Sometimes I've heard sounds that sound like sobbing. I'm never quite sure whether to let them get on with it or try to soothe them with words or gently wake them up. None of my dogs have ever minded what I've done to help. It can be quite upsetting on occasions to hear sounds that seem like distress.

I swear Dory barks more in her sleep than when she's awake! She mostly goes "HOOF! HOOOOF!" but she'll flail around on occasion.

Boaz and my husband Peter had a conversation in their sleep once: Boaz: "Woof woof, snort" Peter: "I think you may be right, it's too small" Boaz: "Grumble, grumble, whuff" Peter: "I'm thinking hardwood would be better" Boaz: "Whuff, whuff, growl" Peter: "Ok, I'll look into that as well".
Sadly, I woke both of them up with my laughter and never did find out what they were building.
