Raven is a sleep talker. Last night I was off in dreamland, enjoying my REM sleep, when I was startled awake by rooing. Yes, rooing. In her sleep. This is the third time she's done it, and it's always in the middle of the night...She's lucky I think it's adorable, even at 2 am. She's equally lucky that it never wakes up Daddy haha. She also sometimes barks or whines while asleep. Anyone else have a hound that's a noisy snoozer?

lol...yes! Thunder is a talker, squeaker, whimperer as well! I haven't heard rooing though. That's cute (well, I'm not waking up to it at 2 a.m.!). What really gets me is when his legs start to go and he hits the hardwood floor or the wall. Then I'm awake....wide awake!

None of mine have ever roo-d awake or asleep but all of them have made weird whimpering and yelping noises in their sleep accompanied by lots of twitching legs. Sometimes it's quite unnerving as they sound like they are sobbing and distressed but I don't think they are.

Sally is quite vocal while sleeping! She will even bark in her sleep. I don't think I've ever actually heard her roo. Sometimes she will start huffing and puffing very loudly in her sleep and then her legs will start going. I think she must be dreaming about racing.

Rio and Tiana are quite vocal, but I have never heard rooing...that would be adorable! All of the dogs run races of course, and it is funny when their mouths start to "chew" after a race (I wonder if they "caught the bunny"...lol!). The best was when Tiana's tail started wagging in her sleep! must have been an awesome dream!

Froggy is incredibly vocal while sleeping. She also twitches and moves her legs like she is running. Being a sound sleeper, I always wake up when she does this, but I think she is adorable and let her get away with it.

Oh yes, Michel is very vocal as well, although I have never heard her roo awake or asleep. Her legs also go like crazy making a fair bit of noise on the hardwood flooring and she huffs and puffs, whinges, whimpers and cries and also she wags her tail like crazy hitting the floor or wall. Always wakes me but never His Magnificence, thank goodness. Only when she 's really crying of whimpering do I get up and go to her and soothe her.

Yup Ace is very vocal when sleeping. He whines, barks, yelps but no rooing. The vocal noises aren't the only thing. There's the wagging of the tail banging on the floor and the legs moving a mile a minute scratching the walls or what ever is close by. It is lucky that they are all so special that we put up with it.

It's either Mary or Willy that roos in their sleep. It's definitely a roo but sounds more like a loud wail, starting low pitched, then higher and back to lower. It doesn't happen on a regular basis. But all of them also make weird sounds and movements ... and having all four in the bedroom during the night can cause some wakeful sleeps (for me that is).

Awww how cute is Raven?! Both of my departed Greys were. "soft barkers" in their sleep or more of a soft "woof". They also both moved their legs while dreaming - no doubt running through the fields at the horse farm. I miss watching them sleep.

I have never, but never, had a dog who twitches and vocalizes as much as Summer. There absolutely must be a correlation between them being racing greyhounds and being noisy active sleepers. My personal theory is that these guys DREAM because they actually have something wonderful to remember and dream about!

Loved reading everyone's replies! The race theory is a good one...we often watch Raven sleep, her legs twitching, and think "She's probably winning a race right about now..."

Ryder actually lets out a very loud wail! He has only done this a few times and I attribute it to a nightmare because it sounds sad or like he's in pain! Both boys otherwise make quick talks in their sleep, quick light barks, and toes twitching like crazy. I've had Kasey full on kick me many a time. We always used to whisper to Kasey when we saw him in full dream land "get that rabbit...."

We often root our guys on when they are running in their sleep cheering them on to the finish line. Hmmm, Maybe we should get out more.

LOL, we do quiet "Rahhhhhhs", like a distant racetrack audience.
Millie huffs and puffs in her sleep, all cute and old ladylike.
Holly races... while she's roaching. Need to film that sometime because it's just hilarious.
Riggin full out runs, usually in the middle of the night when he's in the hallway bed situated so his nails run across the wall. Whatever he's after he's caught a few times because sometimes the "races" end with munching sound effects. Some things you just don't want to know about.
