i am looking forward to this years picnic. This will be my first time.I do own racers but have never taken one home as a pet but that is now my intention. If i find a grey at the picnic that i am interested in , am i able to take the dog home or is there much more involved.

I've never been to a picnic either as we just got our first grey in September, but my guess is just bring your wallet and as long as the dog has had their vet visit, he/she could go home that day.

There are usually a good number of dogs that get adopted on picnic day Lots of people have them out of the kennels and walking around. Taking one home would probably depend on how long the dog has been at GRA. Most years there is a new "haul" right before the picnic, so adopters have to wait few weeks to bring them home due to vet checks, spaying/neutering, etc. For those dogs that are all ready though, I don't see why you couldn't take it home that day.

Brian (from Barrie), why wait for the picnic. There's a group of beautiful pups right now. Seriously, the picnic is a great time to mingle with the pups and adopt. I've gone every year since I adopted Troy, I will miss being there with him.

TIP: If you want to meet up with someone you know from the Forum but don't know what they look like, it might be wise to arrange a time and a place and maybe a means of identification, i.e. I have one white dog and one red and white.

We adopted Boom in March and we were hoping to make it out, but unfortunately this date doesn't work for us Next time there's something going on, we'll bring Boom and D (from Greyhound Pets of Atlantic Canada) - I'm sure that Boom would love his adopted sister to meet his kennel buddies!

ZackHarrsion - it's well worth it Best of all you can pick some kennel pups to love and give lots of hugs! Let's hope your mom falls in love with them to.

For any silent lurkers out there on the forum, everyone is welcome to attend the picnic - whether you own a grey or not. It is a wonderful way to speak one on one with grey owners and learn so much about the breed. I presently don't have a grey at home and due to traveling this summer have to wait until the fall to bring another ones home so I am going to the picnic to get my greyhound therapy! (and of courses to socialize and catch up with forum friends)
