This year has been very tough for me. Early January I lost my beloved Troy and 4 days later I had to put my 15 year old cat Russel to sleep. Now today I helped my sister's 14 year old dachshund Clifford cross the bridge. He was my nephew and had many sleep overs at my house. I will miss him dearly. This is the hardest part of having a pet but I wouldn't trade their love for anything in the world. Life without a dog, a cat or animal would be empty. This makes my cry every time I read it. The Eulogy; Look not where I was For I am not there My spirit is free I am everywhere In the air that you breathe In the sounds that you hear Don't cry for me Mom My spirit is near I'll watch for you From the other side I'll be the one running New friends by my side Smile at my memory Remember in your heart This isn't the end It's a brand new start. Troy, Leo and Russel Clifford

Erika. I'm so very sorry for your losses. I know exactly how you feel. My home and life hasn't been the same the last 2 months but I wouldn't trade my memories for the time I have with them. We think we rescue them but they more often rescue us.
Get extra love and kisses from Leo today. The eulogy poem brought a tear to my eye.
I agree, It's difficult but I will always have a pet. They bring so much love and goodness to us. And we return that to them.

What a beautiful post Erika, and what beautiful hounds. This is the only part of pet ownership I don't like, they never stay long enough, do they?
I've had a similar year, with both my girls leaving due to Osteosarcoma, Connie in May and then Millie in January. I miss them terribly, and try to focus on the gift that they were rather than the hole that was there when they left, but sometimes you just have to sit down and have a good cry.
There were quite a few losses this past year on this forum, I suspect it was the worst year ever for losses, but of course as the forum grows, so do the numbers of those leaving. But as the poem says, this isn't the end, and I truly believe that.
Hugs to you and your loved ones, I hope you continue to heal with grace from your losses.

I'm so sorry for your losses. The photo of the three of them is just precious. 3 peas in a pod!
Such a wonderful poem. Thank you for sharing it. Yes, so many painful losses. All we can do is try and focus on the wonderful life we shared and our happy memories of every moment.
Hugs

I too will always have a dog because however painful it is when they have to go life is 100% better having them around.
Sending you loving and supportive thoughts.

That is way too much loss in far too short a time. I'm so sorry.
Thank you for The Eulogy and the photos.

Erika ... I'm so sorry ... this certainly has been a painful last couple of months for you and your family. The pain we feel has to be the most horrible pain in the world but the love and joy we get from our pets is the most precious.
The eulogy is beautiful .... it helped me get through the passing of my Angel and Ollie who passed away within two months of each other a few years ago. Hopefully it will bring a little comfort to all those on the forum who have lost a hound over the last several months.
Love the photo of Troy and Russell (and Leo) ... such a keepsake of them together. And I love Clifford's little Chilly Dog coat ... he is so adorable in that photo. My condolences to your sister for the loss of her beloved Clifford.
