For those of you who are in the Barrie area and are looking for turkey necks and/or chicken feet for your hounds, Cordino's Fine Meats and Deli on the corner of Younge and Little have them. I had originally ordered a dozen of each for Finn but he could only get them in by the case. So needless to say there are extras to be had. LOL

How's the price? And are they the really big turkey necks or are they the smaller ones? My seniors can't take too much bone anymore, so I'm always on the lookout for the smaller ones from the broilers.

The turkey necks are HUGE!!! I was expecting the size that comes in the turkeys you guy in the grocery store, but nope. Since I have never bought necks or feet before I'm not sure on how comparable to other places they are for price but they are the only place in Barrie that said could get necks and feet in for me. The price for necks is $2.99 a pound and feet are $1.99 a pound. I paid about $48 for a dozen necks and a dozen feet. You could saw the neck in half, and that would still give a good sized treat.

Oegema Turkey Farm in Talbotville sells turkey necks for $1.99 lb according to their website. I've bought them there before, just couldn't remember what I paid.

Definitely a better price per pound there but that's a 3 hour drive (one way) for me. LOL

I have a better alternative for you in the future, we can talk later today. Be careful giving that much bone to your hound, it's too much for one meal, or even over a day.

Does anyone have a hound that just swallows a neck all at once? Top is not so much a chewer, he just wants it to go down. It happened once and I'm afraid to give him any kind of chewy treat since.

Ryder doesn't really believe in chewing very much either. I find that I can't win if I give him a super large piece in the hopes that it forces him to chew it up or if I give him a smaller piece hoping it goes down easier. Kasey has learned a long time ago that it hurts to do this, and he now takes his time with ANY food. He is, I am certain, officially the slowest eating greyhound ever.

Until I was sure that Summer would eat the necks "properly", I held one end with vise grips and she munched away on the other.

LOL! As a matter of fact... Note that this is the ONLY time she ever got such a large neck. We cut up all her future ones. Waiting for her very first ever turkey neck. Nom nom nom!

Oegama's Turkey Farm is about 15 mins. from our house. We defrost the big necks one at a time then cut them in half. Since we have 2 dogs that works perfectly.
