Sometimes, people who adopt from GRA aren't really into all the greyhound forum/website stuff, so I thought I'd give you an update on a recent adoptee, that Lewis and I recently ran into. Anyone remember P's Cessco? He's a gorgeous white boy with blue eye patches. We ran into Chess (his new name) and his new mom at Pottersburg park the other day. Happy to report that she's enjoying Chess immensely, and had lots of questions for Lew and I. She was also surprised that we knew his race name. Yup, we are definitely geeks. Who else would possibly remember lots of ex GRA pups, would buy a house so that their dogs could have a yard, and buy a minivan not for a human family, but for the pets? Any takers?

:)Hi Well, I only have one grey Lexie but I would do anything to make life better for her. I LOVE hearing about the other dogs and how they are doing. I too remember the dogs names and love to hear how they are doing in their forever homes. I wish more people would let us know. I can't take any more greys. Hubby is mildly allergic to Lexie. So I have to live to hear how the others are doing. Thanks for letting us know about Chess. He is a cutie. JuneM

I'm Glad Chess is doing fabulous in his new home. Sadly, I am a GH Nerd too. I find it amusing when someone gives me a dogs name, I can tell you his/her race name and pretty much when they came to GRA (but only for the last couple of years). But there is nothing in this world that I am even close to being as passionate about as I am with Greyhounds. Their entire lineadge fascinates me. I'm always seeking out new information and gathering as much knowledge about them as I can. I wish School had been this interesting. Hee hee. Actually just today Rene was telling me that I should go on FM96's radio program "Mr. Know-It-All" for Greyhounds. He figures we could get a dinner out of it. JuneM, tell hubby to get some Reactine Tee hee.

Just signed up here - like the new board ;D As a "lurker" on some of the other greyhound boards, I know some of your dogs, and I think I've met one or two of you at some of the greyhound events (Jiffer, I met you at the picnic the day after you adopted your 2nd). So, for some of you familiar with the adoptees out of GRA, I'm mom to Roxie (PF Pretty Nice, adopted April 2004) and Oscar (Binding Offer, adopted February 2005) and I couldn't be happier! I can't tell you how much joy these guys bring to us. They live with their beagle "brother" Indy, and the two kitties, Josie and Sophie, and are doing just great! They'll be extra happy tonite when they see they both got new beds today. My daughter was just commenting how they got "cushy-er" beds than she has

Hi again,
"Zookeeper": Roxie pre-dates our association with GRA but I certainly remember Oscar!
"JuneM": So happy to hear that Lexie is fitting in well with you and hubby. FYI, I have allergies to just about everything that comes with fur and just about everything that produces pollen... This includes greyhounds! I had a recent allergy test at my specialist, and had a fairly big reaction to dog dander. While I did admit to owning a dog... I sort of failed to mention that we have three! For the most part, Greys do not produce the amount of dander that the average breed produces. Some people think I'm crazy, but the joy I get out of owning my boys far outweighs the occasional discomfort I feel from allergic flare ups (Usually, it's quite tolerable). So I can totally relate to your hubby... and I totally agree with Jen... Get thee some Reatine!

I remember Oscar too, not because I met him, but because he was our "second choice" after Sting! Sly Sting was at GRA at the same time as Oscar. I was planning to adopt Oscar if Sting hadn't "picked" us. Though if I'm not mistaken, by the time we got to meet Sting, Oscar was already spoken for. And yes, I'm a nerd in more ways than one. Greyhound nerd. Computer nerd (I do tech support for a living.) Being a nerd isn't so bad actually, especially if you're the right kind(s) of nerd! I adopted Sting's brother Eagle a year after Sting. They now have matching collars, coats etc. My daughter and a lot of my friends think I'm nuts for adopting a second grey. Naah. I'm just a Greyhound nerd. ;D

When I went to GRA to adopt a greyhound I actually went hoping for either Cessco, Keanu or Arrow. Cessco was too much of a puppy for my 9 year old girl though but I'm so glad he's doing well! I always wonder what's happened to the ones I don't bring home.
And no, we're not geeks ;D

It's comforting to know that Lew and I aren't the only self-proclaimed geeks. Its interesting how a few of you had your eyes on Cessco. I hadn't even considered a third dog until I saw him! Unfortunately, like some of you, I found him to be a little "bouncy". Then I met Dave... :)Isn't it interesting how you can see a picture online and have your heart set on a particular dog, only to fall in love with a completely different one when you get to the kennel? None of our three boys were first choice dogs. Stuey wasn't even a fifth choice dog! While we were considering a second dog, we went through almost EVERY female at GRA at the time. Either they were too much for Jack, or they simply didn't like him. Eventually, Lewis and I became quite enamoured with a black boy named Jahodas Big Cuz. However, we waited a little too long to make a decision and he was adopted. We adopted Stuey almost by default.. It's funny now because he is the most delightful, sweet little guy. The second we got him through the door, we knew everything was meant to be. It certainly is true that, sometimes, you gotta let the dog pick you. We couldn't be happier with our three guys, and I'm sure you all feel the exact same way about your special pups!

Hi! Another greyhound nerd here. We have three boys that we adopted from Bill and Freddie at GRA. Duly(Duly's Atom in Oct /04), Bob (Blow em away Bob in Dec/04) and Tyson (Roman in Aug/05). You know you are a nerd when your daughters friends come to pick her up and they are bombarded by greyhounds at the door. The comments are precious. Also when you take them for a ride in the van and stop to take them out and the car next to you starts to count as the dogs jump out. I love these boys to death and have never once regretted getting all three. Both my daughters are leaving for University this fall :'(and my three boys will become my center of attention. My girls would argue that they already are!!!There is nothing like a greet at the door by all three when I'm done work. It makes my day.

My fiance and I had the choice to keep my nice red sports car or trade it in for my parents van. We chose the van. Not because we plan to have kids or start a family, but because Tigger doesn't like the car, and its better for him to have the van. I spend more money on dog food and toys and bones and treats for my Tigger then we spend on food. I own every book you can imagine on greyhounds, I take hundreds of pics of Tigger, have a seperate photo album for him, so I guess you could say I am a nerd!
