Dear brother Timmy and sisters Ally and Beth…
Hey, y'all. It's your sister Terri – but my name is now Victoria (Vici for short). I’m living in another country – Canada – just next to the United States. I arrived here in April and was soon adopted out to a really cool guy named Joe – who had lost his two previous greyhounds last February. I hear they were almost fifteen years old and really swell dogs; boy, they must have had a great life!
Anyway, this Joe is an interesting kinda fella – super nice, funny and loving. He smokes cigars – but much better than our trainer Billy’s cigars. You all remember that Billy’s cigars smelled like our dog poo burning. (hmmm did any of you ever….lol) Yuck! Joe’s cigars smell really good though. He’s also into what they call sports, politics, television and is always coming and leaving the house. He wears this neat uniform many days; he looks just like the policemen we had at the track.
I live on a street called Victoria, just down from a school called Victoria. Tomorrow these Canadians have a holiday and it is called Victoria Day. I think the reason Joe named me Victoria is because he’s getting a little older and it’s probably easier for him to have a lot of things in his life named Victoria … just easier for him to remember.
Windsor’s a really cool city and people love me here. We walk down by the river, through the neighborhoods, in parks, and everyone comes up to pet me. Joe must have lived here for a while because he seems to know so many people. He’s always stopping to chat with people. I also have a really nice fenced in backyard and spend a lot of time running and sleeping on the grass.
Boy I miss you guys so much. Are you guys still chasing that stupid rabbit? I can’t believe that after being let out after that rabbit with the gang some 50 times or more, none of us ever caught that thing! I came close a number of times, but close only counts in “horseshoes” they say. Yah, I was listening to some music in the house the other day and got all teary eyed when this John Denver guy sang Country Roads and he talked about my old home – West Virginia…. I miss the mountains and hills; this place, as nice as it is, is as flat as a pancake.
I also miss all my buds back in Birmingham, Alabama at the track. But I don’t miss that bloody little kennel of a home I had for two years. You should see the size of my new kennel – it has a dozen or more rooms with really soft places everywhere for me to sleep on. But, it’s not all on one level and you should have seen the stairs I had to learn to climb. I almost freaked when I first saw them, but, with practice, I was able to master them in no time. Heck, I easily pass Joe on the stairs when we are going up and down. In fact, a couple of times I almost knocked him down the stairs! That was funny! And speaking of Alabama, Joe has invited friends over to meet me tomorrow – Victoria Day – (although every day is Victoria’s Day) and one of his friends that’s coming is originally also from Alabama. We’ll have a lot to talk about I’m sure.
Joe has this really strange looking creature he calls a cat. Its name is Ashley. She looks like a deformed rabbit with gray hair. She was not happy about me moving in! She acted all sorts of huffy – like this was her house and who was I to come into it. One day, while Joe was napping, Ashley got too close to me and Joe was awakened to find Ashley's neck in my mouth. I just wanted to see her up close. Boy, I can still hear Joe yelling at me; he is soooo loud! I immediately dropped the stupid cat and ran to the basement to hide. I guess having the cat in your mouth by its neck is not appropriate behavior here. I certainly learned my lesson and the cat and I are getting on much better now.
Yesterday Joe and I were watching on television what they call horseracing from Baltimore. I had never heard of such a thing as a horse before. They look like really, really, really big greyhounds and they too, like us run really fast around in a circle. But the weird thing is, there’s no rabbit they’re chasing after. They just run with all these cute little men on top of them. How dumb is that? (hmmm…maybe not that dumb) Running and not chasing anything? These are some dumb dogs! Anyway, Joe got all excited because one of them apparently did really good (at what I don’t know) – and this horse is owned by some guy from here in Windsor. And I guess this horse did the same thing two weeks ago in Kentucky. When I get this whole thing figured out, I’ll let you know more about it.
Well that’s it for now. I just wanted you all to know I am happier than I have ever been and really love my new forever home in Canada. These Canadians rock! I wish all of you could be up here too with me, but please know that you’re all always in my thoughts and dreams. And I hope you all find forever homes filled with as much happiness as I have found. Let’s stay in touch…
love, your sis, Terri, now known as Victoria!
