This is a spin off of Stylishhound's thread "What's you day job". Almost everyone seemed to like where they are at which surprised me because I hate my chosen profession and I thought that the majority of people do... I wanted to be a veterinarian. I was gonna take the long way by getting a vet tech diploma, then crossing the boarder to New York where there is a vet science degree program meant for vet techs and then the plan was to head to Guelph to vet school. I only made it thru 2yrs of vet tech b/c at 19yrs old I could not handle "killing" animals. I did not understand the compassion of euthanasia back then. So, in a nut shell, I wanted to be a veterinarian - what did you wanna be? Sheri if I could quit my job today I have no clue what I would want to do...professional shopper!? ;D

tee..hee...me too Sheri, me too! I sooooooo wanted to be a vet but it just wasn't in the cards for me. Or, an actress! ha! Silly child! If I could go back though I think I'd study forensic science or marketing. I studied Business at University but rather than listening to my gut, I listened to my dad and only minored in marketing. If I could quit my day job I'd do so in a flash so in the meantime, I continue my search for a rich man! (just kidding!!). I love my collar business and I love the cruelty investigation work and dog training I do only they don't pay the rent so until then, I'll continue to shuffle papers and sit at a desk

I also wanted to be a vet, but was born a bit too early, when I was in high school looking into it mostly only males were accepted by the veterinary college the odd exception was made, to often daughters of existing vets, or to daughters of parents who had some financial/political clout, I wanted to go into arts but my dad was absolutely against, I would have been thrown out of the house if I tried, so ended up going into accounting but hated it(maybe more so out of anger with my dad) and dropped out after a year.

A doctor....definitely a doctor. I still might go to med school one day....if I decide that working 75 hours shifts and working in understaffed hospitals is something appealing to do For now I'll stick with the 9-5 job of being a dietitian!

I, too, wanted to be a doctor growing up. Actually, because of my artistic side, i wanted to be a plastic surgeon so i could use my artistic talents to help people (especially those with facial deformities). Unfortunately, biochemistry and life got the better of me and I switched to fine art, then art history and finally graduated with a Bachelor's in Speech Pathology. Needless to say, not doing ANYTHING like that right now. Still harbour the hope of neurosurgery one day!
But my mom had a friend who at 50 had been a housewife, suddenly became a widow, her kids had all left home and decided to go to medical school. Seven years later, she is a practicing doctor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is hope for us yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At one point, I couldn't figure out what I wanted, so I thought I could go into journalism and that way get to interview people from all walks of life and thus get a taste of their different careers. Now that still sounds like fun!
Nonetheless and above all, I love my current job of being a mom!

If I could quit my day job, I'd absolutely without a doubt, want to do what Bill and Freddie do; take care of the greys, all day, every day, and find them forever families. I love all animals, and my grey is the best thing that ever came along petwise. I'd love to give them all the love, and respect that they deserve. d

Growing up I wanted to be a lot of things.
For about five years, I wanted to be a vet. Heck, I even applied to the U of Guelph Vet program. But I realized that blood grossed me out... in fact, I could barely dissect animals in Biology class (I became vegetarian for about 3 years from that). I just couldn't deal with it. I've gotten a lot better now, and having my 'kids' has helped much.
After the Vet idea fell through, I wanted to be a Primary Teacher (Grades 1 - 5). But it never panned out.
Add to this my passing phases: Professional Trumpet player (Jazz, mostly), Figure Skater, Train Engineer (there are probably a lot more)
