We've had our gal a year now and up until recently she would eat her two meals a day with gusto!...then she would go on and off her food for awhile and now for the last month or so she's down to eating only one meal a day? I put out her breakfast and it lays there until she's ready to eat it which is usually her supper time? I've changed her food lately but it hasn't made much difference. She gets two or three walks a day depending but isn't interested in running. In fact she'll trot for the first while but then seems to lose steam and wants to sit or lie down along the way? could it be due to a lack of exercise?

Leo often only eats one meal in a day, about 1 1/2 cups, and he's a very tall/big dog. Unless she's overly thin, she's probably just eating as much as she needs.

I make homemade dog food and they only get it once at day. I have dry food available all day but they only munch when they think they need to top up. Both my pups are at perfect weight. Ghost seems to be settling in at the same routine. They seem to wait till 6pm when they get the homemade stuff.

If the food there for them, they'll eat when they want. If there aren't any other issues (vomiting etc.) don't worry about it. She knows the food is there when she wants/needs it so she's in no hurry to gobble it down anymore

Just a thought - some dogs want to eat less if they're overly hot (eating heats one up after all). If she seems particularly reluctant to eat when it's warm out, you might want to make sure that she isn't overheating. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry, as the others have said, especially as it doesn't seem to be an infrequent occurrence (in which case, I'd worry about something making her feel sick).

In the warmer weather, my Little Buck does not eat well either. All last summer, I worried about it, and once again, I have started to worry.....but then I have to stop myself. He really hasn't lost any weight, will eat treats, and drinks lots. Try not to worry...as Lovemygreys said the dogs know the food is there and they'll eat when they are hungry....but it is hard. I sympathize.

at home it's all you can eat buffet. that was funny the first day. it's small bol for the yorkie so i filled up many times a day. the first time she got home she past about 2 minutes to look at the bol....then she started to eat.she left when it was empty. so i fiiled it up but she wasn't there when she passed again she was wondering why it was full so it took a couples of days to her to figure out that she doesn't have to eat all of it .....and now she eat when she's ungry and chew every pieces of food very slowly.

My Annie only eats once a day. When we first got her 2 1/2 years ago she was very skinny and enjoyed being fed twice a day but over the last year she has decided that once a day is enough for her. She does love treats and dog cookies through out the day though. My other dog Beenee is completely food motivated and is ready to be fed the minute my feet hit the floor in the morning. Annie couldn't be bothered to even get off of my daughter's bed and check out what I am doing. Their difference in personalities and habits make life so interesting!

I provide home made dog meals and they only get it once at day. I have dry meals available all day but they only eat when they think they need to top up. Both my canines are at ideal bodyweight.
