With all of Jack's tummy troubles I am trying to convince Jack's dad that we should try him on a raw diet. I am searching on here but thought I might save time by just asking my question.
1, how do you feed raw? 2 what is a hounds daily diet like? 3. would he need suppliments? 4. Is it just reg people food given to them? Any advice or ideas are greatly appreciated.

I can't personally help you, as I don't feed raw. But check out Awesome-Paws/Camp Greyhound. Karen sells raw food and knows all about it. She has lots of information posted on her website. Here's a link to get you started: www.freewebs.com/awesomepaws/abouttherawdiet.htm.

I've been feeding raw for about 10 years now, and love it. It solved 2 of my dog's tummy problems almost instantly, but it depends on the dog. I will try to answer your questions without being too long winded.... 1, how do you feed raw? There are different versions of raw (prey model, "barf" types, etc). I guess I sort of feed a happy medium between the main types. I feed a meaty bone meal, and also make a chopped up recipe mix with organs, muscle meats, eggs, a few veggies, etc. as personally, I find this the easiest way to make sure I get all of this in their diet (I make in big batches and freeze). Other people just feed large chunks of whole meats. I think it really depends on your access to meats. 2 what is a hounds daily diet like? Usually Teague gets his meaty bones in the morning (chicken thighs, pork ribs, stewing lamb, wings, thighs, fish etc.). In the evening, I usually give him my chopped up mix. I must say, I also give my pups a lot of my leftovers if they are healthy (stews, soups, pasta, etc) which some raw feeders would never do. 3. would he need suppliments? Again, people have different opinions. Some people say they get everything if you feed the proper amounts of bone, muscle meat, organs. Others say that modern factory farmed animals are missing some of the benefits of a "wild" diet. I personally don't feed too many supplements, but I do like to feed a fish oil/vit. E combo, and occasionally I sprinkle the food with kelp or nutritional yeast. Not really necessary though. 4. Is it just reg people food given to them? I feed all human grade meats, and lately have been getting their meats at the grocery store (Karen, I need to order from you!! ). Most people could never afford choice cuts though, so you will often use meaty parts that most people would never buy (you should see the looks you get in the grocery store checkout when you have packages of heart, kidney, tails, giblets, feet, etc.!). There are a lot of raw suppliers now you can buy from in bulk. It really doesn't end up being more expensive than buying a good kibble. If you just want to test out raw to see if it helps the tummy problems, you can just try one type of meat for a week or two (no extras, organs, etc....chicken thighs are my favourite...you can get the baggies at No Frills for a good price). If you decide you like it, there are some great books, websites and groups you can check out.
