Today I picked up some pork kidneys to try with Jasper. They've been sitting in his bowl for over an hour without a nibble. He'll give them a sniff but that's it. Has anyone else tried these and with similar results? He usually gobbles down whatever is set before him. Do I take it away and not offer an alternative for this meal?

No real advise other than to be careful you don't feed too much kidney in one meal. It's very rich and Jasper will get the runs as a result.

I agree with redgrey re: the runs. I feed kidney here and all 3 pigs eat it without a second sniff - HRH doesn't touch it of course. But definitely a full meal of kidneys may leave you 'running' for some paper towels!

Well, looks like you and Jasper are in agreement to not liking kidneys. You might want to permanently take it off your grocery list. ...just sticking up for Jasper..poor boy

Considering he'll eat feet and snouts and who knows what else, I'm surprised that he's turning his nose up at this. Anyone want a few lbs of kidney for their hound?

He will eat anything - even stuff that I'm pretty sure he doesn't like, he eats anyways! I've been giving them a new veggie puree that I'm trying out this week - not sure he likes it but he is eating it anyways!!! HRH would be Miss Roodles - only the best for her (and her definition of the best seems to change daily)!

Harley doesn't like kidney either, he will eat it sometimes if it is small and partially frozen. It goes down without him even knowing!

Holstein would not eat any organ meats, and not tripe either...I have not tried Ramone or Lola with anything so far except their Natural Instinct raw, and chicken backs. they are crazy about both, we'll introduce something else soon and see how that goes.

Any organ in your k9's diet should not add up to more than 10% of the total daily amount in weight you are giving them. I am unclear if you have your Grey on both kibble and give raw on the side as that may be an issue re:runny poops as well...Each dog will be different on raw, my working GSD got 2.5% without giving him the runs. As for the pickiness... Any time I would introduce a new kind of game meat, he took his time to inspect it before eating it.

Yes, I keep his organ meat to a small percentage except beef heart which counts as muscle as well. Jasper is on a totally raw diet and is doing really well on it. He does love his liver treat each week.

I have lots of customers with dogs that hate kidneys. Some won't even eat chicken backs if there is any kidney clinging to the back. It's just one of those organs that not every dog loves! You might get away with chopping it up and mixing it into something like ground tripe, that should cover the smell of just about anything lol.

Chicky does not like kidney or liver either (unless the liver is dehydrated). She does like beef heart but my supplier closed down just after Christmas so she hasn't had any in months.
