I'm thinking of putting in a track!!! What can I do to replace the mud track in my yard? I hate to let the dogs out one by one, but lately the yard is a mud hole and the water out of the hose is freezing! I love to watch Arwen and Lexus run together. They seem to follow the same figure 8 with an extra loop. I thought about building a track. Any ideas? Lorraine

We have a separate fenced area next to the house for our dog to run her figure-eights in. Every other year, I order a couple of tons of sandbox sand and cover this area to a depth of about 6 inches. Might be a bit cost prohibitive for a larger area or a track.

We not only have the muddy ruts where they corner but HUGE and I mean HUGE holes where they have been digging. It's unbelievable how fast they can dig. Our yard looks like a war zone. We,ve given up trying to fix it for now but we're open for suggestions.

I don't know guys ;D. These dogs love running and they are so so fast. My fenced backyard with the used-to-be perfectly manicured grass is now a muddy track here and there. My husband rolls the grass 2-3 times a month just to keep it up somewhat OK. It seems to be working. Sand would be the perfect choice for running, digging absolutely. I envy those who can do sand-tracks for their pups.

Sand is a good option. At our local dog park, they have used wood chips. Though I'd worry about getting sticks lodged in their feet. I know some folks have success in spring using straw/hay to keep the mud under wraps. That gets a bit messy too though if you want to clean it up when it dries. Grass just can't compete with their strength

My boy has made his own circle track in our yard and yes indeed the ruts are deep. I have been trying to figure out what to do to make his track less muddy and had not considered sand. Do those who have tried this find that when your greyt is having a run that they throw the sand all over the yard? What are the actual racing tracks made of? I need to do something because my carpets are getting ruined because of all the dirt and mud.
