Well we have determined that Apollo whines the whole time we are away. The kids said that all last week when they have come home they can hear him whining while outside. Today I came home and sure enough he was whining - doesn't matter if he is in the crate or not. We have tried Rescue Remedy. I am going to look at my notes on the Bach Flower Essences to see if there is something else. He sees the vet next Saturday as they wouldn't give him his shots this past Saturday due to the chocolate chip cookie incident. the only way we settled Gigi out of her separation anxiety was to give her Amitryptilene. It worked and she only needed it for a few months but I really don't want to go down that road with Apollo if I can help it. I still have some of hers left and can use it in a pinch. Any suggestions - yes the radio is on set to country music and their crates are side by each Sue who is going to buy the neighbors ear plugs

I can relate Sue! When I first brought Taylor home she barked...and barked....and barked. Once I got her into a real schedule, ignored her coming and going and never making a big deal about either, and crating her (which worked for her), and using a rescue remedy, we worked through it. I will say it took some time though and anything out of the norm, made her stress. Apollo's been through a lot being bounced and he's going through more adjustments and hopefully things will calm down soon for you. I shy away from medication as well but I did have a dog on Prozac sooo...when all else fails, sometimes it is a last resort. Sorry...no real words of wisdom here just patience and understanding.
BTW, I get the large size of Prozyme being a multiple large dog house but I see they don't have any right now. I just e'd them to ask if possibly they do and it's just not listed. I'll let you know.

Hi Sue -
Sounds like he is just missing the company of his new family. I would too, I guess. He is a bounced boy so he is still getting used to you guys going and coming.
I agree that using the medication should be last resort - but not eliminated as an option altogether.
With ours (Sy), we went thru the same thing when we first got him. Turned out that he just didnt like to be crated. Once we let him roam the basement (while muzzled) when we'd leave, it turned for the better. Now, whenever we leave him alone he has free roam of the house - while on a muzzle still. Accdg to our neighbor, she doesnt hear him anymore.
I'm sure all will be better soon. Do keep us posted on the progress.

Some people have had success with using D.A.P. with their new greyhounds and nervous behaviour. Here is a link with info: vetmedicine.about.com/cs/behavior/a/dogbehaviorprob.htmI couldn't find any in pets stores here in Kitchener but apparently PETSMART carries it. You can also order it off the net. I was gonna use it for behavioural house-soiling but luckily the belly bands did the trick. Good luck.

We tried him muzzled and gated off for the first couple of days and he soiled the house, then we borrowed a second crate (as Gigi won't give up hers). he is not soiling his crate but is still whining etc. Guess we will continue to play it by ear. I know being bounced has made it difficult for him - sometimes I wish they could talk - although I suspct we owuld get an earful

He's just adjusting to his new home. It's a strange scary place and his people are not always there.
Do you know if he's making noise ALL day or if it's just to your homecoming cues? Our four know approx. what time we get home and they start checking the windows (even if Rene or I are home already) for the missing person (s). They all know the sound of our cars, and start rooing or barking (we have attached neighbours on both sides!!!). They also know the sound of our footsteps. LOL
