Wally has always been an avid fly/bug catcher but lately it's taken on a whole new life of it's own. Wally spends his entire walks on high alert not for small critters but for flys. He will see rabbits, squirrels outdoor cats you name it and he barely will turn his head, but if a bug flies by I get my arm nearly ripped off. He also has to stop and inspect any spot on a wall or fence as it could be a bug lying in wait. Well today all his efforts finally payed off, or so he thought anyways. On the way out of the condo he noticed a spot on the outside wall and on further investigation it proved to be a plump, slow moving lady bug. Such an easy meal can't be passed up now could it, so down his hatch it went. Not a half second later the poor little soggy bug was spit right back out and Wally had a look of pure disgust on his face as he tried in vain to wipe the taste away with his paws. The lady bug crawled away, happy to still be alive no doubt, and Wally spent the rest of his walk with his head down sulking. Maybe that's the end of his bug hunting career. I don't have a photo of this event but here is a picture of Wally being distracted by some sorta bug flying around so it seems fitting.

Hmmmm...what does he think about red ants? I am battling with them on my paving stones in front courtyard. Perhaps he'd rather have them candied (those delicacies you read about and gag thinking about it!) Love the picture...Wally is such a cutie-pie

So the saying "once bitten twice shy" can be customized. Don't worry Wally! You'll find a genus that's palatable. Keep trying!
Winged creatures can't make contact. If Emily suspects there's a fly or mosquito on her, she'll stop walking and pretend scratch with one of her hind legs. That's my signal to step in and rescue her. I give her the once over and she's good to go. Who's the princess?

Aww Wally, lady bugs just won't do. Don't trust me on this one, trust my cat. He'd insist that house flies are the best! Happy hunting

House flys are by far the most entertaining but if you want a satisfying snack nothing beats a good June bug...mmmm

OH sounds like he got one of those imitation lady bugs. They give off a nasty, bitter chemical when threatened. Few years back, pre-doggies, we had an infestation at our apartment and anytime you'd fuss to get them out, they would release a very acrid smell. I don't miss them or that apartment in the slightest.

I've got a flying anything eater too!!
She's not so discriminating yet. I've seen her go after bees!!
I guess she'll have to learn the hard way...

Stinger is my bug eater....he has been known to eat 20 snails off the deck after a rain, and he is so mesmerized by anything that crawls near him! We had some flies in the house one afternoon and he caught them all against the screen door.
I once saw a dog eat a toad, but they spit it out and the dogs mouth foamed up, it looked like it was a rabid dog or something....come to think of it, I haven't seen a toad in a very long time either....?

I wish mine would eat the snails too. I had a dog once that would go after the bees and it didn't seem to bother her when she got stung inside her mouth, nor did it stop her bee hunting.

Too funny - I have a "fly-catcher" in our house as well! Our Odie unfortunately got some welts a few years ago at our cabin in central Manitoba (Canada) by some horseflies. They are relentless, and go right for a Greyhound's under-belly where they cannot reach them.
Now Odie often gets paranoid about anything that buzzes around him. If he's outside, I just open the door for him right away. He will actually RUN to the corner farthest away from the back door, which is our bedroom. Then, he'll lie on the floor and stick his head under the bed to "hide!" I guess if he thinks that he can't see the flies, they can't see him, right? I can't quite decide if his "logic" is smart or not! LOL!!
