I'm at my mothers house as I post this ... soaking wet without a change of clothes.
It started off innocent enough. My mother and I were sitting in the backyard and Gordie was playing with the neighbors min pin Uno in my mums backyard (fenced in of course). Anyways Uno decided he wanted to go for a swim so he hurls himself into the pool and starts swimming around.
Gordie decided that it looked like fun. I said "Gordie you don't know how to swim" and was in the process of grabbing him to back him away from the pool.
I was too late. It kind of looked like Gordie tried walking into the pool (didn't really jump in) ... he panicked ... I jumped in to rescue him, lucky he was in the shallow end (only 3 feet deep).
I lift him out of the water ... 82 pound greyhound, freaking out ... get him on to the pool patio (it's an inground pool). Uno climbs out of the pool (smart little guy uses the ladder) and comes over to console Gordie.
Don't worry everyone is fine ... mum got a photo with her camera so when the film is developed i'll be able to post the picture of Gordie after his "swimming" or should i say sinking incident.
He's wrapped up in a towel on the sofa right now trying to live down the embarrassment. Don't think he'll be trying that again.

Oooooo Gordie I had to do that with my pet sheep once, (yes you read right, I was in 4-H and had a pet sheep named Angel-Bugaloo) She fell into the pond.... 87 lbs becomes a whole lot heavier when water is inovled! Glad to hear everyone's all good!

You'll have to get him water-wings when he's around the pool! Glad he's okay after his watery ordeal.

It took us almost 6 weeks to teach Lou how to swim when I took him for hydrotherapy. That's in the water twice a week, too! All greyhounds do NOT know how to swim, and because of their deep chest they tend to topple over, so you really have to watch them around the water. That being said, I know a little greyhound girlie named Millie who swims in goose ponds lol.
Gentle scritches to Gordie, hope he's all over it!

Ahhh poor Gordie...I'm sure he was feeling sorry for himself on the couch that night. Funny how they think it's a good idea at the time....Chicky also thought she could walk on water in my sister's backyard pond (only 1 foot deep). Once she was in there she looked up at me as if to say "ok, bad idea, now what do I do mom?". Where was the camera then!!

Gordie was so happy in the small pool at the picnic. Maybe he thought the big pool would be the same. What a surprise for him.

Yup, some don't know how to swim! Mayhem figured the lake was just a huge wading pond and took off toward the center, attached to hubby by the leash. Goofy dog kept going until his head was under water, glug, glug, glug. Hubby fished him out and boy we all got the stink eye that night, lol. Whaddaya mean I can't swim?!? My four skinny legs were moving as fast as possible, how the heck did I end up at the bottom of the lake?!? Stooopid lake! How very undignified!!! ROFL

Yep, both of ours attempted the "walk on water" feat on the little (but deep) goldfish pond in my inlaws' backyard - they only ever tried ONCE each, though!
We also have a bulldog (and bulldogs can't swim either, their legs are bowed out, so the dogpaddle doesn't keep them afloat). My daughter and her boyfriend took them for an off-leash run in the woods, and she decided to jump into a pond last spring, just after the ice melted. When she didn't surface, my daughter's boyfriend had to jump in and scoop her off the bottom of the pond.
