I wasn't sure where else to post this but if you have a minute (or more!) to read the message below, it's a worthwhile read.
I donated 3 collars to these auctions and hope that they bring in some much needed funds for research. My friend just lost her greyhound last week to this terrible disease so one collar is donated in his name - Thunder's Dragons. My logo developer also lost her greyhound, Miss Nellie, and a collar has been donated in her memory as well - Dusty Rose Romantic Roses. If you're looking for a new collar, coat, beads, pictures....this is a cause worth supporting while getting something for yourself or your fur baby.
Thanks for reading!! Jenn

In the summer of 2004 Janet Shaffer found a lump on her Greyhound Foxy's front leg. The lump was removed and she was told Foxy had cancer. There was a 70% likelihood of the tumor returning in the first three months. That was over20 months ago, and Foxy is still doing very well, with no return of the tumor. They are the lucky ones. Since then, Janet has watched others loose their beloved greys to cancer, in particular osteo, she always wanted to do something to help. In June, 2005 one of her favorite greyhounds, Clover, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. By July, she was gone. Janet had to do something to help!
Janet, who had been designing bling for greyhounds, came up with the idea of a ribbon with bead, a Bling, that both hounds and humans can wear to show their support for research on cancer in greyhounds.
Hope for Hounds was born in November 2005, to raise awareness and to support the research of Guillermo Couto, DVM in the Greyhound Health and Wellness Program at Ohio State University.
Suzie Collin’s greyhound, Miss Nellie, had been diagnosed with osteo and underwent an amputation just as Hope for Hounds was being launched. Janet asked Suzie if she would tell their story to inspire others in a similar situation. Suzie agreed and offered her support to the Hope for Hounds program by generously offering to design a logo. Since then a decal was made available on Suzie’s website and she also set up a Cafépress store online to generate more funds for Hope for Hounds.
Most of us followed Miss Nellie’s progress as she learned to do things on 3 legs. We celebrated with Suzie and Brian all the small and large triumphs Miss Nellie had. We also cried with them when we learned that the cancer had moved into her lungs. Prayers were offered from all over North America and beyond. Sadly, Miss Nellie could fight no longer and left us on April 8, 2006. Miss Nellie became the guiding force of Hope for Hounds and we truly believe she is still here watching over our shoulder. Miss Nellie is now the Guardian Angel of Hope for Hounds..
Dr. Couto has been an oncologist for a long time, and adopted his first hound 15 years ago, starting his work specifically with greyhounds. However it’s been in the past three years that he’s devoted most of his free time to research into this area as well. His current research evaluating suramin (a drug that potentiates the effects of chemo) and doxorubicicin (Adrimycin) is VERY encouraging. He sees almost 2/3 of his patients alive at a year, quite a bit better than the standard treatment (about 50% at a year).
The auction is to benefit Hope for Hounds, and thus Dr. Couto’s research, and is being done at this time to celebrate and honor the life, strength, and courage of Miss Nellie. All funds raised from this auction will be donated in her name.
Please join us to help Dr Couto find a cure, before more of our beloved hounds suffer and are lost to these diseases.
