A beautiful tribute to another angel...
Hi Bill,
My name is Tara. I was the lucky owner of Clarke, a.k.a. 'J Draw Big House' - a beautiful big white and brindle male you rescued years ago. I fell in love with him at the Ontario Veterinary College, and met with you and Freddie to officially adopt him back in 2003. It was the most wonderful choice I have ever made. He was such an amazing dog.
Sadly, we lost Clarke on October 27th after his 8-month battle with osteosarcoma. It was so difficult to say goodbye...but it was a very peaceful experience. It was at home and he was surrounded by all of his family and some friends too.
When I say 'battle' I really mean triumph, mostly! He had done extremely well with the amputation in March and the chemotherapy which ended in July. His lungs were clear at that time and he had tolerated the chemo extremely well. Then, in September, we x-rayed his chest 2-months post chemo and were devastated to find small metastases in his lungs. He was still doing great so we decided to let him live until he showed us indications otherwise. He was happy, chasing squirrels and playing with his stuffed animals and eating cookies and being spoiled - right up until the 27th of October. He started to breathe heavily that day, and we knew it was time, so that he would never have to suffer.
What a void is left behind when we lose such a special family member.
As time heals our hearts, we are starting to think about adopting another hound. Hearing GRA Canadais overwhelmed with dogs this fall, and knowing Clarkie would want us to rescue another dog, we are feeling quite sure that when we are in Orangeville for the holidays, we would like to make a special trip to Ingersoll and take a special grey home who really needs a couch and lots of love!
We were wondering if we could book an appointment with you - maybe on December 30 or 31 if you are available?
We are really not picky, but may lean towards a younger dog and possible a male one, or maybe a female with a bit of a goofier/affectionate side. Moreover, though, we really just want to share our lives with another hound in need. I would guess that the best way to go about this would just be to visit on the day of the appointment, whenever it is convenient for you, and see which dogs are there and which dogs we may feel a connection with. I don't know if it will be easy, though, Bill! I would probably want to take them all!!!!!
Thank you for taking such good care of Clarke when he was with you. I know you contributed to his loving nature! Also, thank you for giving me the opportunity to have invited him into my life - bringing me more joy than was imaginable! Clarke has touched so many of our hearts. Everyone who knew him loved him so much...and he loved us all right back! That love will never be forgotten.
Sending you warmest wishes and love and peace, as Clarke would be sending you, too.
All the best,
Tara (and Tim)
