I would strongly recommend Dr. Jessica Sherwin of Sheridan Veterinary Services at 1398 Kingston Road in Pickering, ON L1V 1B9 (905) 839-7061. I cannot say enough good things about her.
Jessica has been my vet for 15 years with little Kasie (a non-grey) at another Clinic in Whitby, and I followed her when she moved to Sheridan because she is so good. She is the one who strongly advised me to get a Greyhound, and she was very knowledgable from the start. She has been excellent with the care of Rio, Tiana and now Willy, I have been impressed with her depth of knowledge of the idiosyncrosies of the grey's bloodwork etc.. Best of all, her Vet Tech, Amy, owns a Grey, and when I first came in with Rio, she handed me Info on the websites around Greyhounds' medical care, Blood Donation, and the Galloping Greyhounds Group in Oshawa. The other Vet in the office, "Dr. John", was also incredible this past week with a medical emergency we had with Tiana (see my post entitled "what a week!" for the details). I was especially impressed that Tiana (who is terrified of most men), was not scared of him at all, in spite of the very invasive procedures he was doing to her.

Any recommendations for vets in the Oshawa/Durham Region area? Jodie Mokler at Brooklin Vet Clinic on Winchester East. She is amazing. We've had all our pups for the last 12 years (at least) going to her. We drive 45 minutes to get there and require our appts only be with her. Just a word of warning...she talks to the pups as much, if not more, than to you ;D

Over the past two weeks, Little Buck had been experiencing alot of issues with balance, not eating, stumbling... I cannot say enough about the fabulous care I received at
Elgin Animal Hospital between Talbotville and St. Thomas and the referral they quickly made to Mississauga-Oakville Veterinary Emergency Hospital. We saw Dr. Andrea Finnen who is the Neurologist and she was absolutely superb. She has 2 greyhounds of her own and as soon as she started speaking, I knew Little Buck was in the best of care. It turns out he had encephalitis (meningitis) and he is at home now in our `cautiously hopeful`mode. She also discoveredd a lump on him that is most likely a soft tissue cancer. She was so thorough, caring, and knowledgeable. It was the best money I have ever spent at both locations (i.e. Elgin Animal, and Oakville-Mississauga Vet).

Just another note to add to the list. The Oakville-Mississauga Veteerinary Hospital also has a wonderful Blood Donor Program and they love to have Greyhounds donate as they are very docile, negative blood etc. There are some wonderful benefits to this program and the most important one being is that they help other ill dogs - Liza and Gable are "donors" and will be donating again this Thursday.

I have only fallen in love with Allandale Vet Hosp in Barrie the last few days so no long time recommendation here but an awesome new impression....Top came home after an extensive dental 4 hours after surgery and acting every bit himself, albeit THIRSTY with two extractions and all the rest very white AND with a bill $120.00 LESS than quoted which was $1300.00 LESS than MY VET quoted. They spent ample time with us before and after Top's procedure. We WILL go back.

Has anyone ever been to Dixie Road Pet Clinic in Brampton? Willow has an appointment with Dr. Masato Yamada to get her stitches out from her spay. He's got great reviews online, and apparently used to work with GiNA, so has experience with greyhounds. They don't currently have any greyhound patients there though. I'll update after the appointment, and let you all know what I think.
ETA: So far we love Dr. Yamada! He and Dr. Brown both ave experience with greys, and the rest of the staff are wonderful too. We've been a couple times now for vaccines, and heartworm preventative and Willow has captured the hearts of everyone there. She's super relaxed in the office, and soaks up all the love. I've also switched my cat over to this clinic, and had the same relaxed happy experience with her last week when we went for a check-up and her shots.

We have just adopted our first greyhound. We don't actually take him home for another 10 days ... but want to be "ready" with a recommended vet in our area. We live in Hamilton. I've seen a couple recommendations close to us ... in Waterdown and in Burlington. Does anyone know of other reputable vets in Hamilton? Thanks in advance, Cindy & boys

We switched vets a couple years ago because the prices were so high at our vet in Burlington. I now drive to Clappison Animal Hospital at Hwy 5 and Hwy 6 in Waterdown. I'm MADLY in love with Dr. Merry. She's fantastic. She is quite understanding and knowledgeable about "greyhoundness." She calls Chelsea a delicate flower Clappison Animal Hospital 780 Highway 6 North, Waterdown, ON L0R 2H1 E: info@clappisonvet.com T: 905-689-8005 F: 905-689-4409

I'm living in the western side of Toronto. Wondering if there are any good vet recommendations around here. I see someone posted Cloverdale Animal Hospital, which isn't too far off. Any other suggestions? Affordability would be a big plus.

Hands down the best service we received was at the University of Guelph, however they weren't close and weren't exactly inexpensive, but they educated us and helped as best they could with diagnosing Kasey's various allergies. I highly recommend them to get to the bottom of a chronic issue, or something that a specialist would need to be contacted for. I may be wrong but I think they do accept regular patients. Dr. Warren from Southdown Animal Clinic (in Mississauga) is extremely thorough but not cheap, we learned alot from him as well. Our most favorite vet was Dr. Ball from Brookville Vet Clinic in Campbellville - www.brookvillevet.com/ - alas we moved and it wasn't feasible to have a vet so far away. We have been with Cheltenham Vet (Caledon) - cheltenhamvet.ca/ for a few years now. Our vet there owns a greyhound, a whippet and an IG I believe. While they don't specialize in greyhound/sighthound, they have been great for us thus far with annual visits, dentals, etc.
