We have ants in our apartment. They were in the bathroom first, and we got rid of them with traps our superintendant gave us. Well now there back, and worse than before, in the dining room and kitchen! Apparently their Pharaoh ants. Whatever that means. I've been reading a bit about them, and they're hard to get rid of. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I'm worried about them getting into Zooks' food when were at work all day :S Thanks guys,

Isn't it the responsibility of the landlord/property management to fumigate? In the building I lived in last year some of the units had ants (not mine) and I'm pretty sure they came in and fumigated. You'd think it wouldn't be your responsibility if there's a full on infestation....but I don't know for sure. That would gross me out though, hehe. Hopefully they stay away from Zooks

Also, maybe just make sure Zook's food is covered and sealed up while he's not eating...does he graze or do you feed him just at meal time? As for his water, I'm not sure...maybe move it to a room that the ants haven't gotten to yet? Like your bedroom or something?

His food and water stay in his crate. He usually eats dinner when we give it to him, but sometimes he doesn't eat his breakfast until later in the day. He also doesn't usually eat when we aren't home. You would think it would be the responsibility of the landlord. If it's not better in another two days or so, i'll call her and tell her to call pest control. I HATE this place so much! I wish we had looked harder when we first were looking for a place, but it was hard because we didn't know anyone or the area at all, so we didn't know what was good and what was bad. I guess these types of ants are really really common though. It grosses me right out, I HATE them. I can't even walk over to where they are right now, cause I can't handle it. I drown them in lysol and use a million paper towel to wipe them up, but it wasn't getting rid of them all, so I put a bunch of traps out that the super had gave me a while ago. It's weird, because they weren't here yesterday, and haven't been in the kitchen or dining room, or anywhere but the bathroom, since we moved here in september. It's odd that theyre just showing up there now. All I know is they better freaking go away!!!! I'm going to see if I can get some stuff at walmart tonight, and try it, and if it doesn't work, i'm either moving out, or they're coming in a fumigating it! Thanks for your help, I hate it so much!

Awww, I feel bad! I couldn't handle that....I'd move out even if I had to pay the rest of my lease out, hehe. But I'm a wuss like that Well, if I hadn't already subletted my place for the summer I'd say you could have my place! Hopefully they'll go away

LOL You don't live in the Maple Ridge on the Park apartments, do you?
Pharoah ants will not respond to regular ant treatments. They are an indoor ant. They do not come in from the inside and then go back out.. pretty much living inside the walls and vents. You have to get your landlord to treat the entire building if you wish to have them out of your place. They are buggers. I had to deal with them in two of the five places I've lived in in London. What helps though is to seal all food stuffs away in plastic containers, clean spills thoroughly and sweep behind your appliances often. The less food you make available for them the better.

Thanks Jen!
We've actually got them responding to one of the traps/baits things we have. The super gave them to us, and its peanut butter with something in it that they bring back to the nest and kill everyone. Its getting a lot better now. Last night we bought some raid traps to try to, just in case, and its gotten better. I talked to the super and she said to call her if it doesn't clear up and she'll get me more traps, or call someone in. I'll be moving out if they don't get out! I was reading a lot about them being indoor ants and stuff. Luckily they haven't been in the food at all, just in the dogs food (stuff which falls out of his bowl when he eats) and that was only the one day, even today they aren't in there. Apparently their harmless too, they don't carry diseases or anything, but still, I DONT want them around. I HATE bugs. Haha, no, we don't live there, but I will make sure we don't move there in September! Thanks for your help!
