Hi all! I'm new here and am very excited to be here I am looking into adopting one of these sweethearts. I am disabled and am looking for a companion for friendship and physical activity. Greys seem to be teh perfect match in all aspects of what i am looking for. There is one thing i still need to know before making any decision, and that is i want to make sure i can afford the monthly costs so he/she can be as healthy as possible. Anyone able to ballpark it for me? The vet isn't an issue we have a good relationship for payments for visits. Just want to know the monthly cost of food, meds, etc. Also I live in Perth Ontario and have no idea where to even adopt one, as travelling distances is hard whilst being disabled.

Hello and welcome!! It's great to read you're considering one of these beautiful hounds. We have two and consider ourselves very lucky. I recommend giving Heather a call. Her number is on the main page of this forum and at the bottom of the adoptables page (where we all drool about the new houndies). I remembered seeing a similar question about cost not too long ago so did a search. The link is below. Lots of input there! Good luck as you do your research and continue to ask your questions. gracanada.proboards.com/thread/10553/total-cost-ownership

Hi Miranda ... Welcome to GRA canada .... an adoption centre that is based in Mount Elgin, close to Ingersoll. I realize this is quite a distance from Perth but I was going to suggest that you join the GRA FB page @ www.facebook.com/groups/1439483209635673/. There are GRA members all over Ontario (several in the the Kingston/Ottawa/Peterborough area who would also love to share info re adoption, their experiences, costs, etc. And as Heather suggested .... speak to Heather Main of GRA canada who can also offer you some greyt advice. There is an adoption group located in the Ottawa area @ GSNCR • 3 Sage Crescent • Ottawa, ON K2J 1Z7 • phone: 613-216-8097 • Cell: 613-291-9025. You would have to contact them for more information. GSNCR stands for Greyhound Supporters of the National Capitol Region and here is their site: www.gsncr.ca/adoption-program.htm I hope everything works out for you ... a greyhound is indeed a very special breed, one I'm sure you'll fall in love with.

Hi Miranda, there are a lot of us grey lovers in Ottawa region. Check out Greyhound Supporters of Ottawa if you are on Facebook. There are a few dogs available and they do home visits so you would not have to travel. Some of us used GRA as we wanted to go play with a big group of dogs and then see who picked us. The Ottawa group does not do a very large # of dogs so there is sometimes a wait for your dog. The monthly cost of feeding will vary on what you feed but at least $40 - $50 a month. They usually need a coat or two in our climate but that is a one time need. I hope this helps and feel free to ask more questions. I could possibly bring you my two for a visit as they love to travel and I am in Ottawa. I hope this helps you with your search and answers some questions. They would also need heartworm meds and possibly flea/tick prevention as you are in a high risk area. GOOD LUCK!
