Tox started limping a week or two after Christmas and then bled after coming inside from a romp outside. His pad had a hole in it, it almost looked like a piece fell out and was obviously painful. We kept it clean and it started to heal. This is where it is at now. He has worn boots outside and it has been kept conditioned with a mix of Vaseline and different oinments. It may have been some frostbite or something in his paw, I am not sure. Has anyone else experienced this? Attachments:

It looks like it could have been a corn. None of our pups have ever had them but I know there have been quite a few threads on the forum about them and they are usually circular in shape with a centre that needs to be removed (which may have possibly fallen out on its'own for Tox?). Here's one of the threads I found. gracanada.proboards.com/thread/8836/corns Type in corns in the search bar and you should be able to find lots of good info. A corn is just my guess so hopefully others will post.

It does resemble a corn but could also be a puncture wound from Tox stepping on something (it's hard to tell from the photo). If it is a corn, it probably will grow back (the centre core) and he will begin limping again. As long as the wound isn't infected, I think you are doing the right thing by keeping it moist with ointments/creams and protected with a boot. Please keep us posted ..... if it was a corn, I hope it doesn't return.

my one greyhound was plagued with corns. To me, this photo is difficult to actually tell if it is a corn or not but my Annie never bled from her corns.

Looks like a corn, but from that I understand them to be - they typically affect the toes and not the actual big pad. Is it hard to the touch? When you touch it or squeeze it, does he pull his paw back indicating pain? How old is he? My Kasey has two and has had them for years.
Try soaking the paw twice a day if you can, with warm water and epsom salts (a tall yogurt jug works best or some tupperware containers). Do this for about a week or so, in order to determine if there is a foreign object in there. With soaking, and if he is tolerable of it, you may be able to squeeze whatever it is out, if something is indeed in there. He could have stepped on a stick or something. The soaking will also allow better healing. Feet are very difficult to treat, but whether it is an owie or it's a corn, the most important thing is to keep it soft and supple therefore bringing less pain as he walks.

Our female has been plagued with corns over the last several years and yes have only ever seen them on the toes and not the big paw.
