Our one grey is always wanting water. There is always water available but she drinks it all at once. She does have a licking problem which she is on meds for and had a vet visit last month and all was ok. Any thoughts. She is going back this Saturday for a checkup so we'll ask the vet too.

Did she start drinking more water when she went on the meds. Many times, certain medications can have that side effect where the person/animal is always thirsty. Please let us know what your vet says .... hope she is going to be fine.

Definitely inform your vet of this - could just be a side effect of the meds but could also be an unrelated issue. Any other changes noticed ie) change in appetite, energy level, mood? Keep us posted.

Lots of things can cause increased water intake (as above). Off the top of my head:
Food (some foods contain sodium, a diuretic, which causes thirst and can even cause the dog to have accidents in the house) Medications (again some are diuretic and cause thirst) Compulsive behavior (certain forms of neurotic or anxious behaviors can come in the form of obsession ie: the bowl is full, lets make it empty) Illness (medical conditions involving the kidney, or diabetes insipidus can cause excessive thirst) Exercise (many greyhounds do not receive water around the clock, as in when they are adopted, so they will tank up when they realize the water is there in anticipation of "drought"; I have owned several who enjoy tanking up after a long hard run in the yard; it's best to curb this, however, since it may mean spewing it all back out)
It might be time to do a blood work check, depending on your Vet's thoughts. Good luck and keep us posted!
