there's been some discussion on the general discussion board about adopting males or females - what do you guys find is the difference between personalities? - or do you think it can even be generalized between male/female? - i have two males (greys) and two females (other) - in our case, the boys are far less confrontational than one of the girls, but that could be due to the breed (mini dachsund) - thoughts, anyone?

I have two male dogs (grey and lab). I find that they get along great but they are not the snuggly kind with each other. Both will snuggle with me or my husband. They always have to know where the other one is. We had NO adjustment over space, food or toys. Maybe that is more their individual personalities. They are both very laid back "whatever" dogs. They get excited and playful at different times so never had to fight over mom/dad's attention. I have never had female dogs. Could the mother instinct play a part in some females being dominant?

To be honest, I don't think there is a greyt number of differences between them. Males tend towards being a little more laid back. Females can often be a bit more bossy. I have three boys and one girl. I kind of think of Echo as an exception. She's very dependant on me. She's very active and very spunky. She can be very demanding. At almost 9 years old, she's very hard to tire out and loves to play. She treats her boys as if they were her puppies (checking up on them; if one is sick, she'll spend time with them; cleaning "body parts" for them). I have met girls who are totally laid back. I have met boys who were more demanding like females are said to be. A lot of it has to do with personality and upbringing.

One of the big defference with my dogs and my fosters is the females are more active and when they play they tend to be more rowdy

i find my boy to be more affectionate. He is quite the snuggler. Abby never wanted to cuddle.. Tigger always needs to be with his mommy.

Hope took longer to become snuggly. Hotwire just came that way. I find Hope to be much more clever, and maybe a bit harder to deal with when we have a dissagreement.

I have 4 siblings - 2 males - 2 females 1 female (Jude) is very sweet, very laid back, I haven't heard her make a sound since I got her. Sadie, however is bossy and will sometimes snap at the others if things aren't going her way. Jet is easy going and Speedy is the bad boy . He barks, jumps, whines, scratches doorways, opens cupboards and drawers, counter surfs, steals food, eats soap if I forget to close the bathroom door and loves SOS pads. So I guess they are a combination of genetics and environment.

I don't think there is too much of a difference. We have 2 females and 2 males and they get along great.
