The emergency vet prescribed tramadol. Does anyone have any experience with it?

I do. When my Gerry was limping badly and they didn't know what was causing it he was given tramadol. He had it for several weeks. He was on quite a high dose (can't remember the amount). I was told he should have been out of it but he wasn't. It didn't deal with his pain and he continued limping. Turned out he had bone cancer in his right shoulder and left hip poor boy. When I finally got the correct diagnosis I took him to be pts.

Poor Thunder - hope your toe heals quickly - not a good way to start off for 2015. Our pup Liza has not been well for a couple of months and our vet has put her on 6 Tramadol a day and she seems a lot more perky lately than she has been. The only way that she will take these pills is that I hide them in a tsp. of peanut butter and she takes them with no trouble at all. I have read up on Tramadol and also have had some awesome advice from longtime greyhound owners so I would not hesitate to give Thunder this pain medication at all. I would hate to see any of our pups have to suffer from any kind of pain if there is a medication out there that will help them. Give Thunder a big kiss and a hug from us (and lots of TLC) and have a Healthy and Happy 2015 with your family and pups.

So sorry to hear about Thunder, hope he gets well soon. Frankie was on Tramadol when he was diagnosed with OS. It worked like a charm making his life much better, at least until the cancer was at a point where nothing would help him any more. Tramadol is known for relieving moderate to severe pain so I would think this is a good med for Thunder. My vet suggested giving a little yogurt with every med to prevent stomach upset. If I remember right, the side effects were really low ... possibly some drowsiness, constipation, upset tummy and/or restless sleeps.
Hope his toe is soon better.

Because Sunny had chronic arthritis, we had a few cc's of METACAM in her dinner each evening. We would buy 180 ml bottles. Now that we had to have her pts because of her broken leg., we have most of a bottle of Metacam left. It is very easy to administer and seemed to be very helpful. If Thunder isn't feeling better yet - and something else hasn't been diagnosed and you feel Metacam would help, I'd be willing to sell you the balance of this bottle at a reduced price. (We paid just over $200.00 fir 180 ml) Phone me at 519-=631-8069

No personal experience with Tramadol or toe dislocation but was thinking of Thunder and hoping that he is recovering well.
