Hello - I am wondering if anyone has found a way to get Meloxicam for their dog, which is he same as Metacam but is a fraction of the price. In Ontario, can a vet prescribe this and then it can be bought at a human pharmacy?

Hi Nic...not sure if you have already found an answer elsewhere, but it may depend on where you are in Ontario. We stock meloxicam @ my vet hospital (Mississauga), but a vet can also write a script for a client to take to a human pharmacy. Most vets charge a script writing fee, so it may or may not be cost effective by that point. Metacam/meloxicam for dogs is in liquid form for ease of use and I think human pharmacies may only stock the pill form...

Hi Nik: Dunnrunnin is correct -vets supply the liquid and human pharmacies supply the pills. My Dr. wrote me a prescription for the PILLS but we also have the remains of an almost full bottle of liquid (180 ml) which we got from our vet for our old broodies, Sunny, for her arthritis. Unfortunately Sunny recently broke a leg and after considering possible treatment options, they were just way too expensive or would require long-term/follow/up, ie physio. As Sunny was nearly 12 1/2 we felt the kindest thing we could do for her was to send her to the Rainbow Bridge.
Anyway - we have most of a 180 ml bottle of METACAM on hand and would be glad to sell it to you at a reduced price. (We paid over $200.00, tax included).
If you are interested, I've created an Instant Message with my Phone # and we could discuss shipping options etc.
(I hope you are lucky and only require this for a short period of time.)
Carol
