It seems like this a common thread right - sorry for the repetition Apollo is doing well ( if we keep everything off the counter ) But we are having trouble with house training. He gets up at least once if not twice in the night - still. And yes we are picking up the water, usually by 8- 8:30 and they get put out before we go to bed, anywhere between 9:30 and 11 obviously the 9:30 is early but there are some nights I cannot stay awake! Anyway, he has also peed everyday in the house while we are gone. They are gated off from certain parts of the house so only have access to hard surface flooring but the pee is damaging the hardwood. He was doing it when we first got him and then my oldest was home from school so it wasn't a problem but he is away at camp now so there isn't anyone home during the day right now - there will be in August but then school starts. Gigi is fine, she can go the whole day without peeing but Apollo either pees on the hardwood or in the crate. We cannot lock him in the crate because then he just tears everything up in the crate to shreds and then pees on it! I am putting pee pads down but sometimes he uses them and sometimes not. We were just out for 30 minutes came back and he had peed in the hall - BIG puddle. He is also drinking a lot of water (so of course is peeing a lot). The pee doesn't have a strange odor or color and it is always lots - not little squirts so i am not sure if he would have a UTI or not. So I was thinking belly bands - not sure where to get them though - i could probably make some too once I have an idea what it looks like. Any other suggestions? Sue

I think you should have him checked for UTI or other possibilities. If he just went and then you come home an hour later and he's gone again, chances are there's something else happening. Belly bands area greyt way to teach them to not pee. If you Ebay at all, go to seller ItsCath. She is in Canada and makes bellybands. C'mon Apollo.. you can do it!

Just ordered a 2 pack from her and I will try to get him into the vet again to check for a UTI

Well Apollo goes to the vet in the morning to see what is up with the peeing problem. And to be checked for parasites again as i suspect that he is still positive for them even though he was treated 3 weeks ago. We are trying a different vet in town so we will see - our neighbor uses them and quite likes them and they do have some Greyhound experience.
Wish us luck!

I feel your frustration! I have had my 3 boys for over a year and they seem to go into spurts of squirts! Everything will be OK for a couple of months and then outta the blue there is pee...always on the hardwood floor and yup, it is damaging the floor (we are in a rental, hee hee hee) We have never been able to tell who it is except for we know that it is not Murphy. When we belly-band them the do not pee so we can not find the culprit that way...But at least the belly-bands work! I suspect in my house the peeing is a behavioural problem (and it is Chevy) - for example: I will let them out for a pee break then let them back in and contain them on the main floor while I finish cleaning the top floor and I can go downstairs 5 minutes later and there is pee! Or we can leave the house for 9hrs and they are fine, we leave for 20 minutes and there is pee. I hope I am not discouraging you...they are getting better and better...and at least you know the culprit! Hope it is not anything medical for Apollo.

Well I am no wiser and $140.00 poorer! We had our consult with the vet and they got a urine sample and while they were running the tests on the sample he peed all over the waiting room floor right in front of me - couldn't stop him! Anyway, there is no sign of infection or sugar diabetes so now they want to run blood work another $120.00 plus tax as she thinks there might be a kidney problem even though he shows no other signs of kidney disease, i.e. weight loss, loss of appetite etc. The thing that is triggering this is his excessive thirst - he drinks like crazy! so of course has to pee like crazy. Kidney disease will trigger thirst but so will other things - like a behavioral response or excessive salt - which I don't think he has in his diet. I have asked them to hold off on the blood work for now, my oldest is home this weekend for the rest of the summer so there will be someone home during the day. Plus I have belly bands on order they should have been here by now but they aren't so the lady has sent a second shipment.
Any suggestions?

I should add that the vet prescribe a course of antibiotics anyway if I so chose even if the results don't indicate infection - just to be on the safe side

Poor Apollo and your fam!
Has the vet said anything about a possible thyroid problem, i know that some of the hormones in the thyroid can induce excessive thirst. I'm sure they've checked, and i'm no vet....but i know it's common for greyhounds to have thyroid probs.
Wishing you luck!

Jen Actaully she didn't suggest that - we have changed his food to see if that will make a difference - so far not much but then last week was exceptionally hot and I would think that would make any dog drink lots, so we will see what this week brings. While I was at the race track (no not horse - Go-Kart with Bryce yesterday the dogs were home alone (as everyone else is at the trailer) and Apollo peed in the house and we were only gone 4.5 hours - but he peed on the pee pad I had down on the floor so at least clean-up was easy!
