Hey,
Anyone else's grey's eat grass? Zooks never used to that I noticed, but he has been lately. My mom said he was doing it with her when she walked him when we went to visit, and Andrew said he's been doing it a lot, even though he tells him not to. Also, is it bad for them? Can it cause flatulence? Cause last night, he stunk SO bad. We came home from shopping and could smell him, we had to spray the place with air freshener and keep it in the bedroom for the night, cause he kept stinking it up! We also started giving him greenies for a treat (and for his teeth and breath) a little over a week ago, do you think those could cause it? I think if they were, we would have noticed it before now, its been over a week that he's been getting them.

He could be eating grass as a way to settle an upset tummy. That is often the reason why they'll do that, and could be the same reason why he's been having bad gas I know greenies sometimes give Roman farts that could clear a room!! If that's the case you might want to give him one greenie every few days or a few times a week or something so they don't have such as effect on him. I'm also one of those extra cautious people about giving Greenies ever since the whole GI issue thing came up with them....but that's just me though.

I never though of it that way. I was reading online, and it says both - to help an upset tummy, and because it tastes good! Maybe I should cut down on the greenies. We watch what we give him, because his stomach is extra-sensitive. He can only have beef based food, no chicken or lamb. He was getting dentabones for a while, and they didn't bother him, maybe we should go back. :S What do you give Roman for treats? And what GI issue are you talking about related to greenies? I don't think I've heard anything about that.... I thought they were really good for them.
Thanks for your help!

We usually stick to the basics, nothing fancy....sometimes I make him treats like yogurt frozen in ice cube trays, or I'll give him his kong with frozen peanut butter in it or frozen yogurt (I'm a big yogurt fan as you can tell, hehe). We were giving him marrow bones from the butcher every once in a while, but I'm not a huge meat eater myself, and watching him get so "carniverous" on a bone really grossed me out so I stopped giving them to him I'm a loser, I know, hehe. His favorite pet store treats are the Innova health bars (he LUVS those) and also Old Mother Hubbard...both of which I get at Petacular downtown but I know the OMH ones are sold at Petsmart too. Also I'll give him human food sometimes like a cut up slice of multigrain bread, canned salmon, tuna....anything healthy that I have left over, but that's just an occasional treat though

I think the grass neutralizes their tummy. solemn always eats grass. we gave him old mother hubbard treats when we got him and they made his tummy really upset. he stunk up the entire basement...i had to leave it was so stinky! his tummy was making the funniest noises too...needless to say, i never gave him one again. we give him milk bones, i got a huge container from costco. he loves them. i also give him some veggies and fruit, but not a lot. i don't want him to get the runs or an upset tummy. i also read on line when we first got him that greys have very sensitive stomaches. also, that you should watch the ingredients, you souldn't give them anything with, i believe, the first 2 ingredients being corn and wheat flour. hope this helps!

Greyhounds eat grass because they can. It's a big springtime thing It's not always tummy issues.. if it is, you'll know cause it'll all come back up in an hour or so. Three of mine are into it lately and it's causing gas in Atlas.. whewey! I've read that giving them Spinach (raw or defrosted) will curb their enthusiasm to eat grass.

Even though grass is so yummy to the pups, you really should try to prevent them from eating it, at least according to my vet. As I mentioned in another post, digby just got over hookworms, and eating grass would be a great way for your doggies to aquire it if wormy doggies have been walking around pooping! unless ofcourse it's your own backyard grass, in which case it's probably fine digby's been eating grass lately and i think it must be a combo of yummy "spring-ness" and upset wormy tummy.
