I think my boys love rides in the van but I don't understand why the whine all the time they are there. Only two out of the three. They are always happy to get in and then it starts. My daughter says it's sing to the music but when I turn the music off they continue. Any ideas?

I have two whinners out of my five. One of my Greys and my Dane. They are just excited! They have good memories being in the truck, they know we are going to do something fun, or visit someone fun....so, they are just excited! Your hounds probably associate the van ride with something similarly fun for them. K

My girls do it when we are going somewhere that they are familiar with like the walk at Springbank. They are fine until a certain part of the ride, maybe halfway and then they start to stand up and cry and get excited. By the time we are at the park, they are beside themselves with excitement. I think they see certain things along the way that they remember and they know where they are going!

Mine whine, pant, bark and carry on. I think as well it's because they know we're going somewhere "fun". I usually take them in the car to get to the fenced yard where they run so I'm sure they know they're out for a good time. A trainer suggested to me to just pop them in the car to go around the block, to the store, just short trips that don't take them anywhere fun and exciting just so they know that the car isn't always associated with fun. Ok, I suppose that is good advice but it hasn't worked yet for my one girl and she's now 10!!! ;D

Cuzzy does the same - he ends up starting to roo as we turn the first corner from home and then he continues almost constantly until we get where we are going!! It's quite amusing though!! ;D
