I was walking Tyson today when a gentleman stop his car got out and walked over to me and my children. He asked if Ty was a greyhound (completely ignoring my Lab to his disappointment). We of course said yes. Then he proceeded to tell us his uncle use to race them in Ireland. Okay, I'm thinking where is this going. Then he said he works for the St.Marys Independant (a small free newspaper here in town) and asked if I would allow my greyhound to be "The Pet of the Week". I said sure. He asked where we got him and I of course used this as an opprotunity to sing the praises of GRA and the breed. So Ty is going to be in this paper which is delivered all over town and available in the grocery and variety stores here. I am not sure how much of the story will get in with his picture but it gets the breed's picture out there. In St.Marys from what I know there is Tyson and one other Grey. We will try not to let his celebrity status go to his head. . Anyway thanks for listening and has anyone else had these kind of reactions from people (they want to see and pet them and ask questions). We don't go for a walk that someone does not want us to stop and have us answer questions about him?? Tara P.S. sorry for the long post.

Yup, these reactions are very common. Greyhounds are easily identifiable and relatively rare in Canada. Many people have never seen one before.
Congratulations for being the Pet of the Week! What an honour!

Beeing a selebretee is very tough so tell yur mum to bee careful. Get her to hire you some shecuritee, but make shure they will wait on you hand and foot too! Oh ya, and you need to tell yur mum that you are now entitled to four times da treats and scritches you were getting before.
Yur fellow celebrity, Gibbers

I got a copy of the Independant today. Good picture of Tyson. We'll have to get him to 'pawgraph' it when we see him ;D
By the way. For being a small town free paper, I think the Independant is pretty good! Much better than my old home town paper, the Parkhill Gazette ( which is NOT free) and I'd say on par with the Strathroy Age Dispatch (which is NOT free)

We like it. It keeps us up to date. The other paper that isn't free we are not so impressed with. I was thinking of writing an article (or letter to the editor) for The Independant about how we found GRA what it is and why we decided on a ex-racer, and then see if they will publish it (sometimes they will do that). I already made copies of contact info for GRA and the pet store here is willing to hand it out (they sponsor the pet of the week) and they hung up a big copy of the info. Sometimes people see the Pet of the Week and asked about them at the pet store. Just trying to help any way I can. I would love to have a greyhound awareness time here and see if I can't get the pet shop invovled (thinking Spring). Does this sound like a stupid idea?? Anyone have any input? Thanks Tara
