Hello all,
About a month a go I went to check out the GRA kennel after reading some articles on here and searching for some alternative breeds to what I have had before (Terriers). Well I went to look, just like everyone does, and ended up signing some papers and leaving with an agreement to decide on adoption within the week. Well, the decision was quite quick after that. In a few days I will go to pick up the timid and shy two year old Coach Toxic aka Tox. Now Toxic isn't the first name I would pick for a dog, but when we left that kennel, Tox has been the topic for discussion since, and I can't really see him as anything else now.
The dog that didn't want anything to do with me, had me as soon as I walked over to his cage. I walked around a bit more, and some more social dogs were begging to be let out of their cage, and I had a hard decision to make. The question: what was the personality behind those timid eyes and statued body could only be found by someone who takes a chance on this guy. No coaxing would get him out of his cage (we'll see how long it takes him to come out on the first day at home), and when we got him out he was looking for every hiding place he could find. He was a bit spooked on our short lived walk, wanted nothing to do with the italian greyhound with us, but seemed complacent being petted. When he spotted his crate though, watch out, he bolted back to it(which makes me happy he has a place that is comfortable and safe, hopefully this translates to his crate at his new home). It is going to be fun to watch him discard his introverted nature and display his personality.
If anyone has some time to chat that is experienced with the GRA adoption I would appreciate it. I have a few questions that I would like to ask an experienced adopter (3rd party, I have seen almost all discussed on here which is great, but competing ideas are plaguing me right now). Just PM me!
He will be in North London, if you see us feel free to stop us! I am sure we will be doing lots of socializing soon, step by step.
Tyler and Tox (well friday)...I will leave you with the only picture I have that is small enough, of the day I went to the GRA.
