So happy to hear you've got your boy home. For his first day he is doing really well. The stairs make take a few days, just be patient, give him lots of encouragement and of course the treats. Some people even suggest bringing in a seasoned hound to show Geordi how it is done. I'm sure others will offer more tips, none of my hounds has ever had to do a full flight of stairs. As for the panting, that is just him being anxious which is totally understandable. Remember, he has never been in a home environment before, all those sights, sounds, smells and tastes are so very new to him. His mind is trying to process his new experience and as in true greyhound form, he will make those adjustments well, just give him some time. Even by this time next week, you will see all the wonderful changes he has made and how well he is adapting. And being only 20 months old, he is still considered a pup, not just inexperienced but not mature yet either.
Looking forward to more updates and we all love photos ... I also like his new name. Enjoy your new pup!
I love his new name too.

Congratulations!
That he relaxed in the car and on the bed are both very good signs that he'll adapt quickly. As angelollie said, the panting is stress--it won't last long. It sounds like you're doing a good job on the stairs, you just need to be patient.

Congratulations on bringing Brad home. Sounds to me like he's doing pretty well so far. With the stairs, it's patience.

Awww... Geordi has certainly found his family and forever home. Now comes a marvel of new acheivements that will leave you both laughing and amazed. I'm sure there will be a "deciding moment" with the stairs, and suddenly it will be a non-issue for him. They do surprise you every day :-) !!

Congratulations!! Love his new name but his old name 'Fuzzy Brad' is quite hilarious It sounds like your new boy is settling right in. I'm sure you'll notice that the panting becomes less and less over the coming days the time spent lying on his bed will become more and more. Sounds like you are doing everything right in regards to teaching him the stairs. It's greyt that they are carpeted. Perhaps you can find a short set of stairs that Geordie can try going up and down a few times on his own. If he only needs to take a few steps up or down he might be more likely to give it a try on his own and soon discover they aren't bad at all. Enjoy all his new firsts!! Make way in your hearts for your boy. He'll settle in there quickly as well!

Well, this was only Geordi's first full day here, and he's totally surprised me. Today he did the stairs by himself, no treats or pushing required - I actually couldnt believe it. They sure are smart and adapt quick! He's doing really well on his walks and relieving himself outside (still knocking on wood for that!). Soon I would like to start training him in recall and other basic commands. We are trying to give him some space, but he seems to be coming to us for pets. Sometimes, after I've pet him a bit, he licks his lips which I have heard is a sign that a dog may bite - I just stop petting him at that point, even though he REALLY doesn't seem like he feels like biting. Maybe I am just reading into it too much. I couldnt help but share this photo of him getting super relaxed - looks like the beginning of a sweet roach!

What a doll you have, And he is settling in nicely from all u say. The lip licking could be just a bit of nerves, or he could just be licking his lips. You will get to know him better and better each day.
I knew it wouldn't take him long on the stairs and yes they are so super smart. You are in for a surprise every day.
Congrats and enjoy every minute.

Just reading your posts now. Geordi looks like he is quite accepting of retirement life! That is awesome that he is roaching already. Keep the updates & photos coming as we can never get enough. He sure is a cutie.
