1) "BB's Nautical Pot" - call name Nauti - kept it (have to keep explaining to people he was a good boy and not 'nawty' ;D 2) "Elmer My Boy" - call name Elmer - didn't like that so changed it to Eddy 3) "WJS Indus" - call name Indus - didn't like that so changed it to Brandy 4) "Kiowa Mary Tatum" - came to us as Lacey, so we kept that name 5) "PW's Fun Time" - call name Ashley - we changed to Heidi 6) "Cajun Scramble" - call name Scram - we liked that so kept it 7) "Hallo Arthur" - called Jordie at the kennel, so kept it 8) "Crystal Wham" - call name Wham - too close to sounding like Scram - so changed to Beau (pronounced Bo) 9) "Aljo Josh" - call name Josh - we kept it

Pak Moveitonover โ I had to read it three or four times before I even got it ! Her call name Susie โ a family friendโs name it had to be changed. After much discussion Bryer Rose was unanimous, the name suites our sleeping beauty perfectly. BF Four Queens, call name Queen. We knew Bryer would not be impressed with a new sister named Queen! So we added Isabella (Queen Isabella) and usually shorten it to Izzie. She is the queen of sweetness.

Thanks Gigi! I have been interested in the status quo for changing racing names and it sounds like there really isn't one - to each their own!
I have a bunch of names I am considering for when I get my pup this summer (3 for a boy and 3 for a girl) and will probably choose one based on it's fit with the personality of the dog or perhaps if it works with the racing name. But you will all have to wait to find out what they are!
Whilst researching greyhound adoption groups in the Edinburgh area to see if there were any meets I could attend I discovered an interesting fact: JK Rowling is a greyhound owner! She adopted a blue pup named Saphire from one of the Scottish adoption agencies. As an avid Potter fan I was thrilled to discover this, hope some of you are too!

But you will all have to wait to find out what they are! Maybe like most of the rest of us, you will have to get 2 or 3 pups. Then it won't be such a problem chosing between the names you have picked. You can use most of them. LOL

I kept 4 outta 5 call names. I just couldn't live with the call name Buzz. Buzz's racing name is Devie's Toronto so we took the first part and came up with Devin...although we always call him Devo or Devolicious.

We recently adopted "Cajun Blond" - known as Blondy. Problem is, she isn't blonde, she is WHITE. Since we already had STORMY (Devies RedStorm), we changed Blondy to Sunny and now we have our "Weather Report Girls". Also, we're trying to convince Sunny that the retired life is GOOD ! ! ! So we gave her a positive name.

Not sure what rock I've been living under and totally missed this poll! But I am so glad that rubytuesday started it as it's facinating to learn all the changes and put new dog names & forum names with the original dog names I remember during my volunteer stint at the kennel!
My girlies racing name is Iruska Smarchic, shortened to Chicky at GRA which she seemed to know and really suits her although I have many other "pet names" for her that she also knows: Chic-choo, Chewnee, babygirl, pooperella, gummy bear....etc,etc. But I do that with all my animals - they all have at least 5 names they respond to!! lol

We Changed CTW Mako Shark to Hurley and even though he was living with someone else for a month (and i have no idea what they called him) He's been home for exactly 3 weeks and knows his name!

Goodbye Kasey, turned into Kasey - self explanatory there. CR Redman - just wasn't going to work for me. On the drive home from GRA, we were thinking of names that sounded Red (red in a different language, derivatives of red....clay, brick....). Hubby noticed a truck on the highway, a Ryder truck, and the name Ryder had red writing. I liked it and it just STUCK. Now whenever we see the truck we think about how little Ryder got his name!

I adopted my red girl on May 1 of this year. And it was the best decision ever! But I had to change her name. "Coach Standifer" just didn't do much for me. Neither did "Stand". And she didn't seem to know it anyway. So I've named her "Summer"... which she still doesn't know, LOL. The reason for the name choice... is that I lost my two beloved senior dogs (both pointer crosses) in April, my father-in-law in February and I knew my own father was going soon (he has since passed). "Summer" will warm up my battered heart, as surely as summer follows winter. It's a huge job for her to take on but she's doing splendidly!!!!!
