I will add to the Camp greyhound post: myguys have camped there for a day as well as a 10 day stay. They love it there! Karen has the best treats, a huge yard, a swimming pool, a digging sand area and wall to wall dog beds. She is just up the 400 so it's easy to drop off your hound and make it back to the airport etc. Karen's pack is usually sad to see the campers go... It's such a relief knowing that your hounds are in such a safe and caring environment when you can't take them with you.

We are looking for proper accomidations for a week during the last weeks of August/early September. Roo is greyt with everyone, Auggie is very shy, doesn't trust men and barks at strangers. I can only leave them if I know they will be in a home environment and cared for by people that really take thier job seriously, no crates!!! We live in Woodstock, but will board within an hours drive if the right people are available. Please give us your in-put.

I would not recommend Dogs at Camp, we had a horrific experience there with Mayhem. Hubby and I went and checked them out, brough Mayhem with us for a test drive. All seemed to be well so we boarded Mayhem there for a week while we went on our honeymoon. We left them with all our contact info (we were in Vegas) and instructions to contact us if anything came up-Mayhem had been recently diagnosed with pannus and was on a cocktail of meds and I was a worrywart greymommy! We came back a week later on the redeye to a voicemail message from our emergency contact saying Mayhem had been thrown out of camp three days prior and they had him, he didn't look good. We picked him up, horrified no-one at the kennel had notified us and he went straight to vet. He had lost almost 10lbs, was severely dehydrated, had scratches and puncture marks on his legs, and was in early kidney and liver failure!!!!! Apparently, according to our emergency contact, Mayhem was fine for the first four days at camp and then they put two small white furry terriers in with him. He is an ex-racer with a moderate prey drive, he of course chased and went after them. The staff knew he was a former track dog, duh, he will chase little white furry things that move erratically. We had made sure they were aware of his history befoere we left and they assured us they had a couple of greyhound regulars at camp and knew what they were doing. He was muzzled for almost two days and got into a couple of scraps with the terriers, the staff called our contact to come pick him up as he was not welcome there anymore. No mention of any other medical issues that came up. No-one from Dogs at Camp ever contacted us to tell us anything was wrong. Our vet was horrified at Mayhem's condition and kept him in hospital overnight on IV fluids and high dose antibiotics, along with a cocktail for his failing organs. He came home on more meds than I can count and took a long time to recover. When the kennel was contacted, we were given the run around and absolutely no straight answers. Nothing got solved until my husband wrote them a letter on legal letterhead from his law firm (finally got someone's attention). I would never ever leave our greys there again. They claimed they had a number of grey campers that were there all the time but from our experience, they are NOT grey savvy in the least! edited for bad spelling at 1am, lol

Just a greyt note about Camp Greyhound. We left our precious babies with Karen and didn't worry the entire week we were gone. What a relief knowing our greys were in such good hands with a person who understands and is fully knowledgable about the breed. I would definitely return for another camp experience. Our guys came home happy, healthy and missing their 'fur friends'. Definitely a wonderful experience with no stress or worries while we were gone.

I would like to add my own new business to the list, Chasers. Its in downtown Stratford & the building is 1800 square feet with a fenced in, secure yard of equal size or more. It is a crate-free environment (unless of course they want to me in one!). I am moving in this Saturday and will be with the dogs 24/7. I have passed the Pet First-Aid course that was offered at Conestoga College and have 2 greys of my own, Texan & Kyra.
Rates are $15.00/day, $10.00/half day or less and $18.00/overnight. Please consider Chasers if you are in the area. 117-119 Regent Street, Stratford, ON 226-921-1291

You can add J and I to the Camp Greyhound fan club. Our pups have stayed there three times and I can say it is honestly a relief to know they are in such good hands while we are away. I was joking with someone else that has boards their pups at Camp Greyhound that our pups are safer with Karen and Michelle then they are with us <s>. There is a greyt wealth of greyhound knowledge in that household. Barb

Well I've never boarded any dog at any kennel but I've heard of 'Dogs at Camp' Apparently it's a really nice organization that provides dogs with lots of different activities taliored to your dogs needs (example: older dogs get nap time). Their website is www.dogsatcamp.com They have several different locations throughout Ontario. I also wanted to comment on Dogs at Camp. I manage a doggie daycare in the GTA and had a couple of customers use DaC, to very much less than critical acclaim. I don't know what the difference is like between locations, but the one my customers used left the dogs unsupervised in a completely open plan sleeping area over night. Now, I am all for doggie socialization (hence dog daycare manager, LOL) but many dogs aren't going to be happy sleeping with MULTIPLE strangers for many nights. One of the dogs came back from his experience with a LARGE injury on his side, and the owners had not been contacted. He needed multiple stitches and had NOT seen a vet!!!

What a nightmare for the owners! But a good lesson for those of us starting out. I sleep with all the dogs and now I'm glad I decided to go that route. Thank you for sharing.

I have had bad luck with boarding so I don't do it anymore. I now have an in-house sitter and we love it. We have three dogs so it is worthwhile. - Pet Concierge Plus - Guelph - Cost/day depends on what you want. We have three dogs, Crafty needs a walk. The seniors just need some outdoor time. Snuggling included. $35 for 24 hour full time care - Phone #: 519-820-3508 - email or webpage: www.petconciergeplus.com/- special restrictions/requirements: I think they are very flexible.

In the Windsor, ON area I HIGHLY recommend K9 to 5 Paws and Play! My friend Erika is the owner and is also a vet tech and the Adoption Co-ordinator for MCGR in the Essex county area. She has 3 Greyhounds of her own and treats all guests as family. She has attended some of the GRA picnic events and knows Bill as well. I have left Onyx with her several times now and he LOVES going there! Prices are very reasonable too. The current website is www.k9to5pawsandplay.net/ although I am making her a new site in thanks for taking such greyt care of Onyx when he visits her. The new site shall be up by the end of next week so there may be a day or two where the website is unavailable while I am deploying it.
