hi all - i was just wondering if there is any interest out there for a place that would specialize in taking in greys while their families go away on holidays, business, family matters, etc.
it's just an idea that i'm throwing around in my head - i have two greys, a fenced area, space in the house for crates (if the dogs use them) otherwise of course they would be left uncrated, access to a grey-friendly vet, i'm home all day, and i just love to be around my animals! -
please post, and let me know your thoughts - bad idea, good idea, any info or constructive criticism is welcome! -

Many folks would love to have their dogs cared for by another grey owner. I'm sure this would be a greyt idea

It sounds like a good idea to me Janis. There are times we would like to go away but have the dog to think about. It would be great to have some one who knows greys looking after them.

Yeah, if we had a safe place for our boys to stay we would definitely take a few more little getaways...although our greys are our excuses to why we don't get up to Sudbury to visit family! Are you sure you can handle crazy grey parents (such as myself) calling OFTEN full of worry and withdrawal? ;D

I think it's an incredible idea. So many people that own other breeds sometimes don't always "get" the special things about greys like making sure to close gates, keeping them warm, etc. You having greyhound experience and knowledge of the breed and of course having the space makes you ideal for the job! Go for it (except for what Sherry said, yep, lots-o-crazy greyhound owners like her! hahaha!).

I agree with all who have posted so far - I think it is a good idea - I am sure there are lots of Greyhound owners who would like to have their hound taken care of by another Greyhound owner! Now, for the wet blanket If you are going to pursue this as a home based business please check your local city zoning and by-laws. And no, I do not work for any level of local or federal governments And the other thing, check your home owners insurance policy and speak with your insurance broker (this is my day job - sorry . If you do take this on even as a part time venture and earn even a small income from it, it is considered a home based business and requires specialized coverage. If undeclared, it is considered a material change in risk and can jeopardize your existing insurance coverage. Sorry - I will get off my soapbox now.......... Otherwise I think it is a greyt idea and i think judging from the posts over the past year there is a need for it

I'm already doing just that in my neck of the woods, and it's going quite well. We do partial days and full boarding too, as well as selling treats and collars at the local pet store; we do grooming, I'm also looking into distributing some of my favorite products, like tree essences.

Awesome idea, to have someone experienced with Greys to look after them while I'm away. Gives peace of mind to know that ace would be looked after ( and probably spoiled..lol) while I'm away.

Hey Janis - I think it's a greyt idea too.
I've only had Tony for 2 months and haven't had to leave him yet but I'm going on a cruise in Dec. with my 4 older sisters. Friends are going to come and stay right at the house, otherwise I don't know what I'd do. I'm lucky because there's getting to be a list of people who want to come and stay with my four legged kids My other dog is a golden doodle and very sturdy and adaptable. I am comfortable leaving him at a kennel but wouldn't even consider it with Tony.
I probably wouldn't go anywhere if I wasn't as sure as possible that Tony would be well cared for. I believe there is a need for specialized accommodation.

I am even looking for a place where Caliloka could go for a day or two a week when I am at work. I want her to have more social time without me there. When I am there she only wants to be with me, lol.
