I am curious after reading a thread on greytalk about what everyone feeds their fur kids and why they do it. Do you choose this food for price, ingredients, how well your dogs do on it (coat and energy) recommended to you or any other reason. My Grey eats Natural Balance Ultra Premium but we are in the process of switching to the Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish (very expensive about $2.50/pound). Our Lab is on the Natural Balance Calorie Reduced (he is a bit chubby I would like to find something that has no wheat, corn, soy or chicken at a more reasonable price but still contains everything they need without unnecessary chemicals. Any suggestions?

I started out with the expensive all natural organic $$$ types of food but neither of my dogs did well on any of them. We've tried: Innova EVO Innova adult Natural balance Cannidae California naturals Wellness Fromms and Pro Plan lamb and rice
after trying all of these, I found Nature's recipie vanison for sensitive skin and the boy both do well on this. It may not be the "best" of the best for quality, but it has decent ingredients and a good price to boot!
It really does depend on your dog what kind of food you feed.
if you are looking for good quality, I would go with Innova Evo as it was my favorite but a bit pricy. Otherwise, Nutro and Cannidae are good alternatives.

I go by how well the pups do on a food. Hope did well on Innova Evo and Fromm, but since our switch to raw they are doing much better

Pasha has been on Techni Cal since she joined us with some plain yoghurt mixed in. So far we are very pleased and she seems to like it.

I feed my boys California Natural. I think it is most important to choose a food your grey likes and digests well. I bought the top $$$ food, most natural, organic and it resulted in many vet trip due to colitis. Once you find something that works I would resist the temptation to switch to anything "better"!

I'm a huge Solid Gold fan and feed the Beef and Barley to Taylor, Kiki eats Fromm Duck & Sweet Potato and Raven is on prescription food from the vet for her Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Nature's Variety and the California Natural that Sheri mentioned is excellent food as well. And I'm the first to admit I'm a dog food junkie and am always looking for something "better"....lol. I used to feed Evo but Kiki couldn't tolerate it but it's amazing too.

I've tried every food under the sun to keep our tummies happy.
We found Sensible Choice Lamb Meal and Rice who was bought out last year by Techni-cal. We're on Techni-cal Lamb Meal and Rice (same formula as the SC one). At this point, I won't change the food they are on since it works for all four.
Often the "best" food isn't the best for your dog. Each dog digests differently. I tried the expensive foods: Eagle Brand Holistic, right down to the cheap stuff: Kirkland Lamb Meal and Rice. They just didn't work for us !

We are feeding Gigi raw and when we need to use kibble we use Nature's Recipe Venison and rice. It states it is free of beef, corn, wheat and no artificial preservative. I buy it at Petsmart and I agree with meganm that it is a decent price. believe me we have tried lots of foods on Gigi - she is very particular and seems to want the variety, when she is being particularly stubborn about what is in her food bowl she can go 2 or 3 days without eating!

we use President's Choice Lamb and Rice from Zehr's - it had basically the same ingredient list as the expensive food they were on previously, and you just can't beat the price - they boys gobble it up - especially when i put a bit of natural yogurt mixed into it - they both have beautiful coats and do not seem hungry in between meals - they each get 2 cups twice a day - and just because, they may get lamb dog bones, whole wheat bread, an apple or cheese - i'm not saying it's always easy so feed these boys, they have their off days - but so do we and they get right back on track in a day or so -

I feed Roman Innova brand. It's a tad pricey for my student budget, but he does really well on it so I'm willing to make the sacrafice. I was considering switching him to the Innova Evo, which is essentially the same but lower carb/higher pro....but then I figured "if it ain't broke don't fix it!" so I kept him on the regular brand. His coat is nice and shiny and he has nice firm poops so what more could I possible ask for LOL! Also, my cat is on the Innova Evo and she is doing great on it!

Feeding EVO RM(red meat) here, Sunny was having a real weight gain issue even when he was eating 1 1/2 cups a day of Nutro lite he was gaining weight at the rate of 1 pound a month, had him tested for thyroid , he does have a enlarged spleen with accounts for some of the weight but not the amount he was putting on, someone suggested going grain free and on the EVO his weight gain finally stopped with a few pounds of loss as well, Interesting is the fact he is getting more than double the calories eating the same amount as the nutro lite with a much higher fat content. All are doing well and their bloodwork is excellent

We found Sensible Choice Lamb Meal and Rice who was bought out last year by Techni-cal. We're on Techni-cal Lamb Meal and Rice We just bought this food a couple days ago and noticed the bag says for dogs 1-6... Flagger is almost 8 now. Do you have older guys/girls and do you think this matters? So far he really likes it and already I even see an improvement in his stool. Also we can't seem to find big bags of it- where do you pick yours up? Thanks! I don't pay any attention to that. I have 3 seven year olds and an 8.5 year old all doing perfect on Techni-cal LM&R. When you start to seeing problems gaining weight (if they're loosing weight) or other issues, then it might be time to find a senior food. Your vet can help determine a good time to change. For now, I'll stick to my regular adult food
