I pulled the first ever tick out of Dashes outside ear. The head came out as far as I could tell nothing was left behind. I read that it can take up to five months for symptoms of Lyme disease can show. One sign can be arthritis and warm limps. Dash, who is nine and a half allready has some of this so what else is a sure sign in greyhounds. Can I do something to combat it or do something to prevent it from developing after she has been bit. Berta, Dashes mom.

Hi just wondering whether you got any response, mine had one and I am planning to get him tested and I was told that Antibiotics cures Lyme disease in dogs also to give the vaccine. Any thoughts

Hi: Not every tick carries Lyme disease - its the deer ticks that we have to worry about. I've never seen one but i'm told they are quite small. I chose to vaccinate Rosie against Lyme because my vet tells me Lyme is in our area. Apparently 40% of deer ticks tested are positive for Lyme. By now you have probably checked with your vet. I understand that antibiotics are used to treat Lyme.
