Hi! Teague had a dental yesterday with 4 of his back teeth pulled. Needless to say he is probably a bit sore but seems to be doing well. My question was regarding food. I have to feed him softer food as he heals up, and normally he eats a diet of mostly raw. I have given him some canned food and cooked chicken meat, but I also have a ground raw mix that he normally eats and does very well on. I just don't know how soon it would be okay to give him this though, due to the higher bacteria count in the raw food. Is it okay to feed raw after a dental or should I wait? Thanks

I never thought of that. Let's see what Karen thinks. Right back cause I think now I need to know

Ya, I am not concerned with the bacteria in terms of his immune system (he seems fine). He just has some raw areas on his gums at the back with stitches in them. I didn't know if it was good for him to be chomping on raw meat that likely contains higher levels of bacteria. It would make my life a lot easier and cheaper if he could eat it, but the last thing I need is a nasty infection!

apparently the thinking is that it's ok after the first day or so. Better maybe, as kibble gets mooshed into crevices at the back where it sits and rots teeth

Well, I gave him some of his ground mix 2 days in. He is so picky and wouldn't take his meds in anything else No ill effects, he is doing great!
