So happy to hear that Stormie's surgery went well. It's amazing how resilient these hounds can be... bouncing right back and carrying on as if nothing took place.
And Redhead, how did your boy do today with his dental? Hope all went well too.

Thanks! I am just glad it is over, I stress over any surgery. He was under for quite some time and the vet still wants to pull a few more. They pulled 4 teeth today (took them forever to get out!), but the main difference is that everything is cleaned and polished. I can't believe how the horrible breath smell is already gone. It cost around $1500 though (not including a couple of hundred dollars on top for extra bloodwork and a urinalysis). Is that pretty normal cost for most people, it seems expensive, especially considering 18 teeth for less than $800!!

Our dental bill at the OVC in Guelph last November was just shy of $700. This included the blood work, and a partial X-ray. I know that the vet said the cost goes up the longer they are under, as well as the amount of xraying that needs to be done. Thankfully he did not need any extractions. If you are in a more 'urban' area than Guelph, the vets may charge more..... I hope your patient is feeling better today. Will your guy let you brush his teeth? Mercury will let us, although he doesn't love it, and we use Petzlife gel as well as Leba spray (not at the same time) his teeth are not spankin' white like they were right after his cleaning, but his molars look pretty decent still! The vet doesn't think he'll need another dental for some time, which is good. It's both stressful and expensive, and we would rather spend our money on fancy collars and snazzy dog coats.

Thanks, I am only about an hour or so away from Guelph (went to school there and have used their veterinary clinic). It may be worth the drive in the future. My bill ended up coming close to $2000 with only 3 teeth pulled and a cleaning. Yikes! I do really like my vet and know they are very thorough and up-to-date, however I am sure that the U. of Guelph is too.
