Thanks for all the support! It's only been two full days since I got him and I can already see him starting to show some improvements. He loves his crate and I am happy he does, I think it is making his transition much easier. His walking is actually orders of magnitude better then when we tried it out at the GRA. He is responding well to simple commands on walks and at home. He showed his personality a bit Saturday coming out of his crate on his own and sneaking a shoe away into his crate. He does seem more worried then shy, has no problems with groups of people, although buses do startle him a bit and swirling wind. Stairs have been hit and miss but confidence will come with more practice, we don't use them often. He is definitely a marker and luckily caught him the first time at home, and a simple but stern NO with a finger point did the trick where he set off for his crate and was feeling some shame for quite a while. He is eating well, peeing and pooping well, overall I'm really impressed with him in just three days. Once he gets some confidence he may be a bit of a trouble maker, we'll see!! Now a couple things that are concerning for me. Each night and this evening while sleeping/laying in his crate will growl and bark randomly. I feel this may be dreaming and it's weird because the one this evening his eyes were open (I know they can sleep with eyes open, but he caught me a bit off guard across the room). Second his when he is sleeping he often has a heavy pant/mouth breathing, normal? Stress? Comes and goes when he's just hanging in his crate. Carla, and sagecrow I would love to meet up and go for walks, I am trying to help him socialize with other dogs but really other greyhounds will probably make him feel most comfortable by their lead, I'll send you a message! I will be around Sundays so most likely will hit the park! We were there today after the weather cleared but didn't see anyone. Tox on our walk this morning looking a little stressed. My girl dreams ALOT...sometimes eyes open and rolled back in her head. She also will growl, bark or yelp w/ various twitches. I think they dream of runnng often, in which case they will quicken their breathing. My fav is the cheek puff with a sigh so big, her lips flutter. I think that is when she finally catches whatever she is chasing Keep us posted on his progress, he is 1 gorgeous boy!

He is so handsome. I'm surprised he went out without a coat in the rain for your walk. I know my guy won't even stick his nose out the door without it. He sounds like he is settling in just great. You are in or tons of surprises each day. Before you know it you won't remember what it was like before he arrived. Enjoy

She's the most active dreamer I have ever seen. She has full out "races" or "chases" in her sleep - eyes and ears twitching, nostrils flared, heavy, rhythmic breathing and all four paws moving in a rotary gallop. It is quite incredible to watch. I have yet to successfully film it as I never want to risk waking her up to get my camera, but I think that they are good dreams. I also love the "lip flutter" that happens near the end - she sounds like a horse when she does it. It's amazing how much her eyes move - no other breed of dog I've ever seen dream has eye twitching that intense. I think it's an indication perhaps of how much more she used her eyes to hunt than say a German Shepherd or a lab. I also think that third eyelid thing is really cool. Congratulations on adopting the handsome Tox. You seem like a great match for each other. It's a lot of fun rediscovering the wonders of the world when watching a racing hound experience all those firsts. River's first reaction to the sound of a Harley driving past our house will always be my favorite memory from those first few weeks. Enjoy them with Tox. And enjoy watching him dream :-)

Congrats! If you need any advice, we've had our dog for about a year and a half now.

Our first hound Cutter was a very timid and shy pup when he picked us and he also used to do a full out race in his sleep. Trout our new hound was shy and quiet as well. We've had trout since may and it took him nearly 5 months to completely master the stairs and 6 months to realize that it's okay to sleep on the couch (now he barely gets off of it). His personality is really starting to show now and he can be quite the trouble maker. He also runs, twitches, growls and barks in his sleep. Enjoy all the new traits that I'm sure will emerge as Tox becomes more comfortable.

Congrats on your adoption! I'm by no means an expert at this point, but I can assure you that even in the 2 months since bringing Lucy home, she has come leaps and bounds in terms of becoming more relaxed. It's now difficult at times to get her IN her crate. As mentioned many times here already, it just takes some love and patience - they are sensitive (more than I could have imagined from what everyone described)! Once they see that you are the consistent, comforting presence in their life, watching the personality come out is pretty great. Lucy and I are also in Northwest London - haven't made it out to a group walk yet as she was still settling in, but hope to soon. Congrats again. So nice to see so many hounds getting great homes for the holidays.
