Hi! Just wondering if anyone else has tried out the new President's Choice Nutrition First dog food? I feed mostly raw/homemade, so only go through a small bag of dog food each month, and had been feeding Acana and Taste of the Wild. I saw the new PC food in the grocery store and was actually really surprised at the ingredient list. Very similar to TOTW and Acana, but for almost half the price! I figured it must be made of icky ingredients from China, but the company said all ingredients are from North America or Europe. I bought it and the dogs have done really well on it. There is a grain free formula which I get, but some other regular foods as well with decent ingredients.
So...if you feed TOTW or Acana you may want to try it out as it is way cheaper. Never would have thought that I would buy dogfood from the grocery store, but I like this stuff!

Well the ingredients look decent and most of the varieties got a 4 star on www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/pc-nutrition-first-dog-food/ PC Nutrition First Adult Chicken & Brown Rice PC Nutrition First Puppy Chicken & Brown Rice PC Nutrition First Adult Salmon & Potato (3 stars) PC Nutrition First Large Breed Chicken & Brown Rice PC Nutrition First Adult Lamb & Brown Rice (3 stars) PC Nutrition First Salmon & Potato Grain Free (5 stars) PC Nutrition First Weight Control Chicken & Brown Rice PC Nutrition First Toy and Small Breed Chicken & Brown Rice It is in the same category as TOTW and Arcana and the Salmon and Potato grain free is a 5 star which is akin to Blue Buffalo, Evo and Canidae. I would certainly give it a try looking at the ingredients and review.

Great thread! I was actually going to ask if anyone gave this to their greys. Sally eats Performatrin grain-free from Pet Valu and does well on it but a co-worker mentioned the PC food to me recently. Anyway, was just wondering if anyone had any experience with it.

I found someone on the President's Choice Facebook page with some thoughts about the product. ------------------------------------------------------------------- November 4, 2013. Dear President's Choice, In September of this year I bought the P.C. Nutrition First Premiere Large Breed dog food. I had been using Pet Valu's Large Breed Specialty Care Performatrin Canine Health System dog food for many years. I made the switch when it appeared that there were basically the same great ingredients in both and the P.C. Dog food was 40% less expensive. Unfortunately, I did not read the serving size. I needed to feed my dog, Cali, 50% more of the P.C. Product, therefore there was NO cost savings. Throughout the later part of September, I transitioned Cali (our dog) by mixing her food (half P.C. And half P.V.). I noticed that Cali seemed more hungry, asking for her dinner at least half an hour before her usual time. This is when I discovered that I wasn't feeding her enough. She had not lost weight however and actually had put on a couple of pounds. Part way through October, the P.V. Food was finished and Cali was only on the P. C. food. I adjusted the amount of food to the right serving size but she still acted hungry. She had also developed very loose bowels, with a consistency of pudding. It was not uncontrollable but caused her to have to go out side several times a day. I became concerned about her food. I asked other people, who had switched to the P.C. food, if they were having any problems with 1, their dogs being hungry more often and 2, loose bowels. ALL of them said βYESβ to both! I asked 4 people. I then went to Pet Valu and spoke to the employees about what they had heard. They said that heard that the P.C. food was cheaper but their meat was of a lower standard than P.V. Food. They also said that other people had complained about bowel problems with their dogs. I bought a new bag of the P.V. dog food. I DID NOT transition Cali to the change of foods. I stopped giving her the P.C. food immediately. Cali has been back on the P.V. Food for 3 days and her bowels are back to normal. Her appetite is also back to normal. I would like a refund for the P.C. dog food. I am thoroughly disappointed with this product. I can not get a refund back from the store because there is only a few cups left. I have retained my receipt and a picture of the bag so that your company can reimburse me directly. I would also suggest that this dog food be recalled. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The response from PC was to message them privately, which the person did. But then, there are some stories that are positive like this blog The bag ingredients are as listed (I looked) lol Chicken & Brown Rice 30lb bag - $36.99 Canadian. Ingredients typed below in order of bag listing, and special notes included as on bag: Chicken Meal Chicken Brown Rice Oatmeal Dehulled Barley Chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols -source of vitamin E) Natural chicken flavour, Tomatoes, Whole Dried Egg, Herring Meal, Flaxseed, Salmon Oil (source of DHA) Brewers Yeast, Whole Sweet Potatoes, Whole Carrots, Whole blueberries, Whole Cranberries, Whole Apples, Calcium Carbonate, Potassium Chloride, Dicalcium Phosphate, Sodium Chloride, Chicory Root, Choline Chloride, Vitamins & Chelated Minerals (vitamin A, Vitamin D3, vitamin E, Niacin, Vitamin C, Inositol, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Beta Carotene, Pyridoxine Microchloride, Folic Acid, Vitamin K (Verified with PC as REAL K not substitutes) , Biotin, Vitamin B12 Suppliment, Zinc, Proteinate, Ferrous Sulphate, Iron Proteinate, Zinc Oxide, Copper Proteinate, Copper Sulphate, Manganese Proteinate, Calcium Iodate, sodium Selenite), Probiotics DL-Methionine, Yucca Schogera, Dried Rosemary. For a 70pd dog they recommend 2cups to 2 1/3 cups a day. Hope this helps

Switching to new dog food, first feed your dog with a mixture of the new and old food, maybe 25% of the new and 75% of the old. The trick here is to make sure your dog doesn't notice the new food you put in bowl. dog food

We tried it but our Mercury didn't like it, so we brought it to the kennel. Mercury is one picky dude and it did take months for us to get a decent firm poop out of him, so we are sticking with Iams green bag with chicken broth (made from chicken bones and water in the crock pot) and a few bits of cooked chicken. He seems to like it , and our new guy Blue is definitely a big fan ( although his poop is yucky... He's only been here for 7 days though). I was really hoping to like the PC brand, I think this private label brand in general is pretty good!

I have not tried it for dogs, but I did try my cats n it without any problems at all. I also feed raw but buy a bag of kibble about once every couple of months. I have him on the Ultra Grain Free from Pet Value and he has no issues.
