We just noticed a lump on the side of our Oni's wrist. It's kind of squishy, but we haven't pushed it hard enough to know if there is a hard lump. I'm freaking out of course because I keep reading about bone cancer and how that's a common spot for it. I'm wondering if it could be ANYTHING else (a little light of hope maybe?) She's 4, she isn't limping, and we've had her about a year and a half.
Also, we're looking for any advice you can give about how to navigate the visit with the vet. So often when we go to a vet we get caught up in a whirlwind of things they want to do that later turn out to be unnecessary, or not necessarily in the best interest of our pet. We don't feel like we're presented with all of the options and given time to think and make choices so we want to be prepared. That being said we're getting her in there ASAP.
Any helpful and supportive advice would be appreciated.

It might be a hygroma, Slappy gets one occasionally and it's just a tissue swelling that will go away after time. They happen on joints but I'm not sure why. Usually they are caused from lying on hard surfaces like in their crates or on the floor with our beds. Fingers crossed that that's all it is. Sending hopeful healing thoughts to Oni.

It could be a lot of things (lots of them harmless). My older dog has little lumps all over. They are just fatty cysts. It could be anything from an injury, bug bite, fatty lipoma, etc. I know it is worrying to find a lump though, because you never know what it can be. Your vet will probably aspirate it first to see what kind of cells are in it. You can go from there, depending on the results. Hoping for good results!

Fingers crossed it's not what you think. Troy had OS on his wrist and the lump was very hard, basically bone deterioration. So you saying it was squishy could be many things as mentioned above. Good luck at the vets and let us know how it goes.

It's definitely not bone cancer; that's not squishy.
I suppose it could be another type of cancer. But it's far more likely to be one of the things listed by RedHead or something else. Annie has a lump just below her wrist that isn't so much squishy as very moveable; the vet and I think it's probably a lump (ganglion) on the tendon. We haven't done anything about it and it doesn't bother Annie.

It's not squishy anymore this morning and now it's just a hard fixed lump. I'm kind of prepared for the worst at this point. The vet can take her this weekend so we'll spoil her and make sure she doesn't run too hard on it until then. Thanks for the information and helpful advice. Thanks for your positive thoughts.
