With a heavy heart we said goodbye this afternoon to our black boy. Scrammy had his 14th birthday last July, however old age finally caught up with him. Scram raced until he was 6 years old. He then languished at Hinsdale for another year or so until coming to GRA, where he stayed for another 6 months before we adopted him at the age of 8. Scrammy didn't like smooth floors, and it was because of this reason we ended up putting runners and area rugs on our laminate floors. Also whenever we took him to the vet, he wouldn't do their smooth concrete floor, so I would have to carry his 78 lb. into the examination room, place him on a towel on the floor for the vet to see him and then carry him back out again. What we don't do for our babies ;D We cherished every minute of his 6 years with us. When he turned 12, we wondered if he would make it to age 13 and when he turned 13 we wondered if he would reach 14. By the time he turned 14 he was starting to get a little weak in the rear end and we hoped we would get the rest of the summer to be with him. Summer passed into fall, but the rear end was getting weaker all the time, especially when he would stand still he would start to sag. He still enjoyed his walks, but they were getting slower. However, last night he was having trouble laying down and panting heavily while at rest, so we decided it was time to say goodbye. He went to the bridge with his head on Cathy's lap and tears in our eyes. We'll miss you Scram. God speed and run free with your brothers and sister and the other greys who who are waiting for you at the bridge.

Sorry for your loss. Scram was certainly loved judging by your vet/towel story. Thoughts and prayers. He certainly did have a full life

What a beautiful tribute to Scram. He was clearly loved and I just know that he is running around like when he was a pup with all the other houndies that were waiting for him to welcome him home. You gave him the greatest gift today and just know he is thanking you for your unselfish love.

I'm so very sorry. I've had a soft spot for Scram ever since I watched him on the Adoptables page--I was so pleased that he got to go home with you. I'm glad he lasted as long as he did; I wish he could have stayed longer.
Godspeed Scram.

Jim and Cathy, I'm so sorry for your loss. Scram was very loved by both of you and couldn't have made it to a better retirement home. He was so lucky to reach the age of 14 and be part of your pack.

Cathy and Jim I am so sorry. I remember how happy I was when I saw Scram was going to his forever home at your house. I knew he was in the best home a greyhound could ever want.
The love you have for greyhounds is so clearly evident. Scram indeed hit the jackpot.
My heart goes out to you.
Run Free Sweet Boy, you've left big paw-prints on you mommy and daddy's hearts.

What a fun name, "Scrammy"! I very sorry for your loss. Scrammy was a very lucky dog to be so well loved, loved enough to say goodbye & be strong again at the Bridge.
